During the meetings, the leaders of both sides affirmed that this State visit is an important milestone after nearly 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
According to the Vietnam News Agency Special Envoy, successfully concluding the State visit to Ireland, on the evening of October 3 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left Dublin Airport, the capital city of Dublin, to attend the 19th Francophone Summit and pay an official visit to the French Republic from October 3-7, 2024.
The delegation was seen off at Dublin Airport by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Pippa Hackett; Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eamonn McKee; Mayor of Fingal, Dublin Brian McDonagh; Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Deirdre Ní Fhallúin; Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland concurrently serving in Ireland Do Minh Hung and his wife; and a number of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK and Northern Ireland concurrently serving in Ireland.
During the visit, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with Irish President Michael D. Higgins; met with Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris; met with Irish Senate President Jerry Buttimer; received Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Ireland Patrick McKillen; attended a business seminar; witnessed the handover ceremony of cooperation documents; visited the National Institute for Biological Research and Training; met with officials and staff of the Embassy of Vietnam in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland concurrently serving in Ireland and the Vietnamese community in Ireland.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam also planted a souvenir tree at the Irish Presidential Palace; laid flowers at the National Monument; visited Trinity College Dublin and delivered a policy speech...

The two sides affirmed the importance of further strengthening Vietnam-Ireland relations; agreed to cooperate for the prosperity and comprehensive development of both countries, for peace, cooperation and development globally, in accordance with the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Regarding enhancing political, diplomatic and security cooperation, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of cooperation against security threats and agreed that the two countries will increase exchanges and promote cooperation in the fields of cyber security and the prevention of transnational organized crime.
The two sides acknowledged the importance of promoting human rights, carried out in accordance with each country's specific characteristics, laws and international commitments.
Building on the excellent bilateral cooperation over the past 30 years, the two sides welcomed the establishment of the Strategic Partnership in the field of higher education cooperation and affirmed the importance of building a comprehensive partnership framework at an appropriate time.
General Secretary and President To Lam thanked the Irish Government's Development Cooperation Program for supporting Vietnam in achieving many development goals ahead of schedule.
Prime Minister Simon Harris affirmed that Ireland will continue to support Vietnam in areas such as climate change adaptation, livelihoods, humanitarian assistance to overcome the consequences of bombs and mines, nutrition, higher education and governance.
Vietnam highly appreciated Ireland’s support in research and technical assistance in the agricultural sector. Both sides welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in sustainable food system transformation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Marine of Ireland during the State visit.
Regarding science and technology cooperation, the two sides welcomed the potential for cooperation in promoting innovation, digital transformation, responding to climate change, training high-quality human resources and other areas of mutual interest.
The two sides agreed on the value of cultural and artistic exchanges, tourism promotion and people-to-people exchanges, aiming to enhance mutual understanding and foster friendship between the people of the two countries.
On international and regional issues, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, as well as the importance of resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The two sides affirmed the need to establish a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law.
