On the morning of October 10, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held a national ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

Attending the ceremony were leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, central ministries and branches, Hanoi City; international delegates and delegates from provinces and cities; veteran revolutionaries, artists, intellectuals, religious leaders, people from all walks of life and armed forces of the capital.
Art program to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital
The opening ceremony was an art program recreating historical moments in the resistance war against the French by the army and people of the capital, the heroic spirit of the liberation day and the glorious historical events of Hanoi on the journey of the past 70 years.
Delivering a speech at the celebration, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that in the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation, the capital Hanoi has always had a particularly important role and position, associated with glorious milestones full of honor and pride.

“We will never forget the historic moment on the morning of October 10, 1954, when the City Military Commission and military units divided into many large groups and launched a historic march into Hanoi,” General Secretary and President To Lam expressed.
More than 400,000 people in the capital were excited and joyful in the forest of flags and flowers, filled with the spirit of " The army marches like waves/Layer after layer of troops marching forward.../We bring back the glory and strength of the nation/From now on, our whole lives will be joyful ".

The General Secretary and President quoted Uncle Ho's appeal on the occasion of Liberation Day: "If the Government is determined and all Hanoians are united in contributing to the Government, we will definitely overcome all difficulties and achieve the common goal: Making Hanoi a peaceful, joyful and prosperous capital...".
From a city with a relatively small scale, area, population, backward infrastructure and economy, heavily devastated by war after liberation, Hanoi today has become the national political and administrative nerve center, a major center of culture, science, education, economy and international integration...
General Secretary and President To Lam said that with the position and strength after 40 years of renovation, with new opportunities and fortunes, "we are facing a historic opportunity to bring the country into a new era, an era of national growth".
The Party and State leaders emphasized the need to bring the country into a new era, setting increasingly high tasks for Hanoi. What must Hanoi do to become a socialist capital as desired by President Ho Chi Minh; what must it do to be worthy of the capital in the new era of development of the country.

Representing historical witnesses, veteran Nguyen Thu (92 years old, former officer of Regiment 102 - Capital Regiment, Division 308 - Vanguard Army Division) told about the journey to take over the Capital.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thu, on the way back, the 308th Division held a celebration ceremony at Trai Co area, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province. People from the liberated areas and temporarily occupied areas of Bac Ninh, Hanoi, and Phuc Yen eagerly poured out to welcome the victorious army.
Each soldier at that time was awarded the Dien Bien Phu Victory badge by President Ho Chi Minh. “It was truly an honor and a great pride. We all cherished and attached that badge to our left chest, near our hearts, considering it a priceless keepsake, to preserve for life and pass on to future generations,” Mr. Nguyen Thu was moved.
Stopping at Hung Temple, he and his comrades were honored to meet and hear President Ho Chi Minh advise: "The Hung Kings had the merit of building the country, we must work together to protect the country."
On the morning of October 10, 1954, the 308th Division, commanded by Major General Vuong Thua Vu, divided into many large wings, launched a march to take over the capital. Hanoi seemed to be revived. Hundreds of thousands of people, from old to young, poured into the streets, wearing their best clothes, carrying flags and flowers, joyfully and proudly singing to welcome the victorious army.
Mr. Nguyen Thu advised the young generation to appreciate, cherish and strive to study, work, contribute, and be determined to maintain the independence and sovereignty of the Fatherland, and build the homeland and country to become more and more prosperous and happy.
Speaking afterwards, female student Nguyen Chi Phuong (an excellent student at Hanoi Law University) represented the young generation to express her respect and gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of the previous generation so that today's young generation can enjoy beautiful results.

The young generation was born when the country was no longer at war, and did not witness the heroic historical moments when the army marched to liberate the Capital 70 years ago, but today's young generation always remembers the contributions of many outstanding children of the Capital and the whole country to have that joyful day of victory.
