Honoring Vietnamese Craft Village Artisans

According to Meritorious Teacher Trinh Quoc Dat, Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnam Craft Village Association, the units and artisans who have been awarded the title have always been at the forefront of production activities, creative labor in production households, and enterprises, actively contributing to the development of craft village production nationwide. Many Vietnamese Craft Village artisans who have been awarded the title by the Association since 2007 have strived to achieve the title of People's Artisan, Meritorious Artisan in the State's awards since the first time in 2010 until now.

“Artisans are living human treasures, the quintessence of craft villages, and an important force in creating quintessential products that preserve the national cultural identity in products, promoting production and contributing to the preservation and development of craft villages. They are the ones who keep and pass on the traditional craft, the soul that preserves and develops craft villages,” said Mr. Trinh Quoc Dat, Chairman of the Vietnam Craft Villages Association.

Artisans are living human treasures, the quintessence of craft villages, an important force to create quintessential products that preserve the national cultural identity in products, promote production, contribute to the preservation and development of craft villages. Currently, our country has enough position and strength to enter a new era, the era of the Vietnamese people's rise. Along with the country's development transformation, Vietnamese craft villages are having many favorable opportunities for sustainable development with the implementation of Decision 801/QD-TTg dated July 7, 2022 of the Prime Minister "Approving the Program for preserving and developing Vietnamese craft villages for the period 2021 - 2030" and implementing Directive No. 30/CT-TTg dated August 29, 2024 of the Prime Minister on "Developing Vietnamese cultural industries" in which handicrafts are the spearhead industry.

However, Vietnamese craft villages are also facing new difficulties and challenges, which are the fierce competition of craft village products in terms of design, quality, and product prices in the integrated economy, especially the tightening of commodity standards and tariff policies of major importing countries. However, we will definitely overcome all difficulties and challenges, and Vietnamese craft villages will always preserve their traditional quintessence and develop sustainably.

According to Mr. Trinh Quoc Dat, the awards of the Vietnam Craft Village Association are all meaningful in honoring the quintessence of traditional crafts, honoring and encouraging creative labor and the contributions of artisans in preserving and developing traditional Vietnamese crafts.

The families that were awarded the Family Gold List and the artisans that were awarded the Craft Village Artisan title have a great honor because of the family's long-standing craft tradition, creative labor, and skillful professional skills of the artisans that have been recognized by professional organizations, thereby also requiring today's craft village artisans to strive even harder in production labor, creativity, improving professional skills and training and passing on the profession to future generations.

From 2007 to present, the Vietnam Craft Village Association has organized 11 award ceremonies for 1,245 Vietnamese craft village artisans, 84 skilled workers, 128 Family Gold Boards for families with 3 or more generations continuing the craft, 73 typical economic units, 12 craft village treasures, and 100 elite products.
