This year's competition received 1,962 entries - the largest number ever. The secretariat has shortlisted 57 entries and 1,905 entries are eligible to enter the preliminary round.
Notably, this time the National Press Awards have 2 new award groups, proposed by journalist Le Xuan Trung - deputy editor-in-chief of Tuoi Tre newspaper, member of the jury - bringing the total number to 13 award groups.

The two new awards are the Multimedia Journalism award (Infographic, Video clips, Podcast, Live-stream) and the Creative Journalism award (creative journalism works, products, and programs).
This is the first time the two new award groups have received positive responses. Multimedia journalism has 102 works in the preliminary round. Creative journalism has 27 works in the preliminary round.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi requested the preliminary judging panel of each award group to promote their professional capacity and impartiality to select worthy works for the final round, especially in the new award groups of this season.
The selection is based solely on quality, not on the unit, locality or author's name.
Encourage creative journalism, linked to stories of national and people's livelihood
Journalist Le Xuan Trung said that this year, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Journalism, the Vietnam Journalists Association wants to breathe new life into the National Press Awards by adding these two new award categories.
Multimedia journalism is a new form of journalism that the public is very interested in.
The Creative Journalism Award inspires journalists to create new, creative journalistic products that are different in both content and form.

The development of technology today allows journalists to use technology and use media to break old ways of thinking and expression, finding new ways of expression to reach young audiences.
For example, the journalism and media projects that press agencies are doing, such as the Pho Day project of Tuoi Tre Newspaper in recent years, are a media event about journalism.
Pho Day has become a day to honor Vietnamese cuisine not only domestically but also abroad such as Japan, Korea, and soon Singapore.
Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association also awarded the collective project award for creative work to the media project Pho Day of Tuoi Tre Newspaper.
Or the Tuoi Tre Newspaper's "Tiep suc den truong" scholarship, a very meaningful scholarship program, including both on- and off-air activities.
And the Dien Bien Phu panorama painting project of Nhan Dan newspaper on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory in 2024.
"It is the creativity of the press in finding solutions related to stories of national livelihood, community and society, creating a new space for journalists to develop, which is worthy of being honored," said Mr. Xuan Trung.
