The host country's leader affirmed that war and genocide happening in today's era are "completely absurd and senseless".
Referring to the conflict between Hamas and Israel that has claimed the lives of many innocent civilians, including women and children, President Joko Widodo firmly said that this "humanitarian tragedy" is completely "unforgivable".
“The ceasefire must be implemented immediately, humanitarian assistance must be accelerated and peace negotiations must begin immediately,” he stressed at the forum attended by more than 30 religious leaders from around the world.
Indonesia has 280 million people of 714 different ethnicities and religions, with more than 1,300 local languages and living on 17,000 islands. President Joko Widodo admitted that uniting the people was "not easy" but "we did it".
Indonesian religious leaders teach that love of country is part of faith. Tolerance of differences and maintaining unity are also part of faith. Indonesia believes in the role of religion, religious and social leaders have an important role in creating peace, harmony and unity in each country, each region and the world.
Appreciating the organization of this forum, the Indonesian head of state called: "Let us turn inter-religious and transnational dialogue into a means to narrow differences and end all forms of conflict, together creating a world of peace, harmony and prosperity."
Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Yahya Cholil Staquf, Chairman of Nadhlatul Ulama - the world's largest Islamic organization, expressed hope that ISORA will reach an agreement with specific actions to resolve current conflicts, including the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Religious leaders from countries that are members of the R20 network have agreed to promote a real solution so that the conflict in Gaza and Palestine is resolved as soon as possible.
