Not Bangkok, Tokyo, Japan is the destination that Vietnamese tourists visit the most during the Lunar New Year.
On January 31, online travel company Booking announced a list of the 10 international destinations most visited by Vietnamese tourists during the Lunar New Year, based on the highest number of searches and bookings from February 8 to 14.
According to this data, Tokyo is the most favorite destination for Vietnamese tourists, surpassing last year's "champion" Bangkok, Thailand. In addition, Japan also has two other cities, Osaka and the ancient capital Kyoto, in the top 10 destinations visited by Vietnamese tourists during Tet.

Head of Communications and Marketing of Flamingo Redtours, Vu Bich Hue, said that Japan has always been a favorite destination for Vietnamese tourists. The time to issue an e-visa has been shortened to the fastest 5 days, the weak Yen, and the attractive Japanese culture are the reasons why Vietnamese tourists are visiting this place more and more. Japan is one of the destinations that rarely uses English, so Vietnamese tourists tend to buy tours rather than travel independently.
In an announcement by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam on January 30, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan in 2023 "reached a spectacular number" of more than 573,000, an increase of nearly 16% compared to 2019 and "setting an all-time high record". This shows that Japan is becoming a top favorite destination for Vietnamese visitors in the near future.
The remaining 9 international destinations in the top 10 include Bangkok, Thailand, Sydney, Australia, Osaka, Japan, Seoul, South Korea, Taiwan, Melbourne, Australia, Hong Kong, Kyoto, and Singapore. Destinations such as Bangkok, Taiwan, and Singapore are traditional international markets that are favored by domestic tourists during long holidays thanks to convenient flights and easy entry procedures.
