The efficiency of people's production and business activities is calculated by dividing the achieved results by the production costs. However, due to the reason that the input prices of some essential goods, fertilizers, and feed for aquaculture have increased continuously in recent years, it has greatly affected the efficiency and profits of people.
Tran Van Thoi district is considered the center of the sweetening area, the rice granary of the province, with nearly 300,000 hectares of double-crop rice, with an annual yield of 5-6 tons/ha. This is a place with ideal natural conditions for developing a model of growing flowers and fruit trees, with an area of about 3,000 hectares; along with a model of raising commercial goby fish, with an area of about 120-300 hectares/year.
With that potential and advantage, the productivity and efficiency in production and business of farmers in Tran Van Thoi district will be very stable if the prices of production materials are stable and do not increase as much as in recent years.
People sell agricultural products along the roadside (in Nguyen Phich commune, U Minh district), hoping for higher profits than selling to traders. However, with this method, only a small quantity can be sold.
Mr. Duy Quoc Tuan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Tran Van Thoi district, said: "Previously, the area for raising snakehead fish in the district was about 300 hectares. However, in recent years, the price of commercial fish has dropped sharply, farmers have not made a profit, even lost capital, so the area has narrowed to only 120-150 hectares. Also from the above reason, the profits of other production models of farmers in the area have been greatly affected."
According to Mr. Huynh Phi Thoang, Head of the Kinh Cu Hamlet Farmers' Association, Tran Hoi Commune, Tran Van Thoi District, the current production situation of the people is very difficult, due to the high prices of input materials such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, gasoline, electricity prices, harvesting costs... while the output prices of agricultural products are low, unstable, and completely dependent on traders. The people hope that the relevant agencies will soon take measures to stabilize the market price situation, helping the people to make a profit so that they can feel secure in production.
Using technical equipment to fertilize and apply pesticides to rice in Tran Hoi commune, Tran Van Thoi district. This is a safe choice for people, but it will increase production costs.
Mr. Tran Van Thang, Chairman of the Association for Consumer Protection in Tran Van Thoi District, said that the biggest difficulty facing people now is that when the harvest is good, the price drops, or production is not profitable due to the continuous increase in prices of production goods. Farmers earnestly request that superiors review and support prices to help producers both ensure output prices and control input prices of agricultural materials, gasoline, oil, etc.
Mr. Tran Truong Vu, Hamlet 2, Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau City, shared: "As farmers, we are not afraid of hard work, the only thing we fear most is that we produce successfully but cannot sell , or the price is unstable. Previously, my family raised 5 ponds of eels and goby, but due to the influence of the weather, along with diseases, unstable market prices... I decided to reduce the farming area. Currently, I am experimenting with raising buffalo goby but I don't know the results yet."
After many years of unprofitable eel farming, at the end of 2022, Mr. Tran Truong Vu, Hamlet 2, Tan Thanh Ward, Ca Mau City, experimented with raising buffalo eel. Initially effective, however, this model is not yet popular and prices are not stable.
Regarding the issue of quality inspection and public price listing on packaging, or public price boards at trading and business establishments, Mr. Dinh Hieu Nghia, Deputy Chief Inspector of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province, informed: "Since the beginning of the year, we have organized inspections and checks in all areas of the management sector, such as checking the quality of fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals; checking the price listing on packaging, the correct price declaration at production and business establishments in the area... In general, no violations have been detected regarding the price or quality of essential goods for production.
"Regarding the issue of increased prices of production materials, the cause comes from fluctuations in domestic and foreign markets. Provincial leaders and functional agencies clearly recognize the difficulties of farmers, have made recommendations on this or organized seminars to find solutions to help farmers maintain and develop production. The immediate solution for people is to wisely choose reputable and quality products and suppliers, combine consideration and cost reduction, contributing to increasing efficiency and profits in production and business," Mr. Dinh Hieu Nghia added./.
