" Winning the championship on my first attempt is a joy and a source of happiness for me. I've played on this golf course many times and found it to be a challenging course with difficult terrain. I'm satisfied but believe I could have achieved a better result. I scored 8 birdies but also had a double bogey on hole 15 and a bogey on hole 17 ," Nguyen Duc Son shared.

Nguyen Duc Son is the champion of the 2023 Tien Phong Golf Championship. This is the 7th year the tournament has been held and takes place on the Kings Course at BRG King's Island Golf Resort (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi ).

Nguyen Duc Son is one of only two golfers to win the championship with a negative score. He finished at -3 with 69 strokes, achieving the second-best score in the tournament's history, after Nguyen Anh Minh (the 2022 champion, with 64 strokes and a score of -8).

Since the tournament's inception, 6 out of 7 champions have been born in 2000 or later. These golfers include Nguyen Vu Quoc Anh (born 2003), Nguyen Nhat Long (born 2003), Nguyen Bao Long (born 2005), Nguyen Anh Minh (born 2007 - two-time champion), and now Nguyen Duc Son (born 2007).

This year, the competition features 160 athletes participating in both amateur and professional men's and women's events.

Golfers are divided into divisions according to their handicap. The tournament consists of 5 divisions (A, B, C for men, D for women, and a junior talent division with 4 flybacks for young golfers). Men use yellow tees, women use pink tees.

The organizers awarded a hole-in-one (HIO) prize at holes 6, 14, and 17 worth nearly 7 billion VND, including three SUVs from sponsors. However, no golfer has yet achieved it.

" Over seven seasons, the Tien Phong Golf Championship has consistently innovated and improved to become the most anticipated tournament of the year. The tournament features a dedicated junior division, something almost non-existent in other amateur tournaments. This provides opportunities for young golfers to gain experience and improve their skills, " commented Mr. Nguyen Thai Duong, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Golf Association, on the tournament.
