Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son admitted that he felt nervous and tense during his first meeting with over 1 million teachers nationwide.
He shared that someone had advised against organizing such meetings and dialogues because it would be impossible to answer all the questions and opinions. He worried that the teachers might go from being excited and expectant to disappointed, or that they might accidentally say something inappropriate in their answers.
"Anything can happen. I still decided to hold this meeting to listen to the teachers' concerns and share with them," he said, emphasizing that this was a meeting and exchange to foster closer relationships and mutual understanding, not a dialogue between "employer" and employee.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son delivered his remarks on the morning of August 15th.
According to the Minister, the education sector is undertaking very large and difficult tasks, and to accomplish these tasks, the concerted efforts of teachers are essential. "The more difficult and significant the task, the more we need concerted efforts. If millions of people look in the same direction, we can accomplish even the most difficult and significant tasks," Mr. Son reflected.
To date, the Ministry of Education and Training has received more than 6,500 comments, of which about 6,000 are from general education teachers, and the rest are from teacher training universities and colleges.
Minister Son stated that addressing all the teachers' concerns and opinions would take several days, even weeks. Within the limited time of the meeting, the Minister will speak with representatives of teachers from various provinces and cities, thereby gaining some understanding of their thoughts and aspirations. After the dialogue, the relevant departments and divisions will continue to categorize the questions and opinions to provide further answers to the teachers.
The meeting between the Minister of Education and Training and teachers was held both in person and online nationwide.
According to a summary by the Ministry of Education and Training, at the secondary level, teachers' opinions relate to several aspects of the implementation of the new general education program (teaching integrated subjects, teacher allocation, organizing competitions in schools, etc.); policies and regulations for teachers (salaries, allowances, retirement age for preschool teachers, etc.); and working conditions for teachers (schools, facilities, teaching equipment, computer systems, staff housing, etc.).
Regarding universities, opinions focused on issues such as: University autonomy and the role of faculty in implementing university autonomy; Improving the quality of training, scientific research, and technology transfer; Digital transformation in education and the adaptation of universities to digital transformation; Infrastructure, network planning, etc.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training's assessment, the above opinions and information gathered from the event serve as an important basis for the Ministry to continue improving regulations and policies, and to implement comprehensive management and leadership solutions appropriate to the practical situation. This will help develop the teaching staff, management personnel, and staff in the education sector, ensuring the necessary workforce to implement fundamental and comprehensive reforms in education and training.
