According to the latest data from the i-Speed Internet platform of the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center - VNNIC (Ministry of Science and Technology), the 5G network access speed in Vietnam in March 2025 reached the highest level since the commercialization began. This is considered a remarkable milestone in the journey of deploying and commercializing 5G in Vietnam.

5G network sets new record

Specifically, according to the data, the average 5G download speed nationwide is up to 247.78 Mbps, the upload speed is 58.15 Mbps. Considering the 5 major cities and provinces of the country, Da Nang is the city with the fastest 5G access speed with a download speed of up to 408.58 Mbps, followed by Hanoi, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.

On the business side, Viettel is currently the unit with the fastest 5G network with download speeds of 278.01 Mbps and upload speeds of 66.39 Mbps. VNPT ranks second with download speeds of 152.3 Mbps and upload speeds of 45.52 Mbps. Although MobiFone has recently officially commercialized 5G services, there are still no official statistics. Although the 5G network generation has greatly improved in speed compared to previous generations, the difference between upload and download speeds is still very large.

Since the end of October 2024, the 5G network has been officially commercialized in Vietnam, after the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel) deployed the first commercial 5G service nationwide. This was followed by network operators such as Vinaphone (VNPT) and MobiFone. Previously, 5G was mainly deployed on a trial basis in some central areas, serving the purpose of research and testing network infrastructure.

The official entry into the commercialization phase has created conditions for network operators to expand coverage, optimize infrastructure, and improve user experience. As a result, the average 5G network access speed in March 2025 recorded a significant increase, surpassing previous milestones and setting a new record.

The strong growth of 5G speed also shows that Vietnam's telecommunications infrastructure is keeping up with global technology trends. This is a positive signal for national digital transformation goals, especially in the context of the Government promoting the strategy of developing the digital economy and digital society by 2030.

However, experts also warn that high speed is only part of the puzzle. Vietnam still needs to continue expanding 5G coverage, ensuring stable connections in rural and remote areas, and supporting users to access compatible devices at reasonable prices.

Da Nang maintains highest mobile Internet access speed

In March 2025, the i-Speed system also recorded a significant improvement in mobile broadband access speed with a download speed of 65.92 Mbps and an upload speed of 23.58 Mbps. Thanks to the high-speed 5G network, Da Nang has maintained its position as the locality with the highest mobile broadband access speed among the 5 provinces and cities nationwide for many consecutive months with a download speed of up to 117.31 Mbps.

Viettel also continues to maintain its position as the unit with the highest mobile broadband access speed, followed by VNPT, MobiFone and Vietnammobile.

Fixed broadband network speed also recorded a positive level in March 2025 when the average download speed nationwide was 109.8 Mbps, upload speed 100.98 Mbps. Considering the 5 major cities and provinces, Hai Phong is the locality with the fastest network speed of up to 251.96 Mbps, this is also the city with the fastest increase in fixed broadband network speed since the beginning of 2025. Next are Hanoi, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang.

Also according to speed statistics of fixed broadband network providers, CMC is the leading network operator with download speed up to 135.81 Mbps and upload speed 140.72 Mbps. Next are network operators such as FPT Telecom, Viettel, VNPT.

However, according to many experts, fixed broadband network speed will be significantly improved in the coming time as Vietnam is witnessing a strong wave of upgrading Internet infrastructure to meet the increasing needs of individual users and businesses.

Internet service providers in Vietnam are racing to upgrade bandwidth to a minimum speed of 300Mbps. This not only helps users improve their network access speed but also optimizes the experience on digital platforms in Vietnam.

The minimum speed of 300Mbps is very high compared to the current average, compared to the world and equivalent to the average of the 5 countries and territories with the best network infrastructure in the world (Singapore - 345Mbps, UAE - 313Mbps, Hong Kong - 312Mbps, Ireland - 295Mbps, France - 290Mbps). Providing 300Mbps as a minimum shows that Vietnam's Internet infrastructure is developing rapidly and surpassing the world trend.

This is a breakthrough in the strategy of upgrading infrastructure, optimizing the system and proactively increasing Internet speed to bring superior experience to users. At the same time, implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, increasing the speed of Internet packages provided to mass customers will create an important network foundation, ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and national digital transformation./.
