The province currently has over 220 concentrated livestock and poultry farms, of which 10 farms are recognized for raising livestock according to VietGAP standards and 1 enterprise is granted a Certificate of High-Tech Agricultural Enterprise and is allowed to export, which is Tafa Viet Livestock Company Limited.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, since the beginning of the year, the livestock situation in the province has continued to be maintained and developed. Compared to the same period last year, the herd of cows is estimated to increase by 1.8% (184,300/181,000 heads); the herd of pigs is estimated to increase by 4.7% (400,000/382,000 heads); the herd of poultry is estimated to increase by 1.3% (6,880 thousand/6,794 thousand heads). Regarding livestock farming activities, in recent times, the provincial agricultural sector has focused on directing and strictly implementing measures to prevent and control diseases in livestock and poultry. Since the beginning of the year, vaccination against livestock and poultry diseases has reached over 17,960,000 doses; quarantine has reached 2,524,636 animals of all kinds; and slaughter control has reached 48,064 animals of all kinds. Along with that, continue to coordinate with localities to focus on implementing livestock and poultry disease prevention and control in the province. In particular, well implement the month of general cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of livestock environments in 2024.
Notably, since the beginning of the year, there have been no dangerous disease outbreaks in the province such as avian influenza, foot-and-mouth disease in livestock, blue ear disease in pigs, and lumpy skin disease in cattle. Some other infectious diseases have occurred in livestock and poultry but at a sporadic level and have not spread into epidemics. However, in the province, there have been 8 cases of rabies in dogs and cats in Phan Thiet city, Tanh Linh district and 1 outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in Ham Tan district. Up to this point, the rabies epidemic in animals has been controlled, with no further cases of rabies in dogs. The outbreak of ASF in Ham Tan district is being closely controlled and monitored by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and local authorities to prevent it from spreading to other areas in the province.
