(Dan Tri) - On the evening of December 6, the VinFuture 2024 Award Ceremony was solemnly held at Ho Guom Theater (Hoan Kiem District) with the participation, speech and award presentation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
On the evening of December 6, the VinFuture 2024 Award Ceremony was held at the Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi. Many prominent scientists from home and abroad were present to honor the winners of the 4th VinFuture Science and Technology Award. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup Corporation, founder of VinFuture Fund - entered the Ho Guom Theater to attend the award ceremony . Also attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, representatives of central ministries and agencies. All delegates in the auditorium solemnly performed the flag-raising ceremony. This is a major event held to honor outstanding scientists and groundbreaking research projects, aiming to build a more equal and better world, contributing to solving common challenges of humanity. Opening speech by Professor Sir Richard Henry Friend - Chairman of the VinFuture Prize Council. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at the award ceremony: "Vietnam always pays special attention to science, technology and innovation, considering this an objective requirement, a strategic choice, a top priority and a national policy to promote rapid and sustainable development in the new era - the era of national prosperity and prosperity, as General Secretary To Lam has directed." The two founders of VinFuture Foundation - Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and Ms. Pham Thu Huong - took the stage to present lotus flowers, one of the cultural symbols of Vietnam, to the members of the Award Council and the Preliminary Jury. The first Prize for Scientists from Developing Countries was awarded to Bangladeshi PhD Firdausi Qadri for her work "Innovation and improvement of oral cholera vaccines in developing countries", aiming to end the global cholera epidemic. The VinFuture 2024 Special Prize for Women Scientists was awarded to Professor Kristi Anseth - a scientist from the US - for her advances in polymer material design and methods for biomedical applications. This work not only lays the foundation for research on tissue maintenance and regeneration but is also expected to create a turning point in the field of regenerative medicine. VinFuture is the first and only prize in the world to have an award category dedicated to honoring female scientists. The 3rd Prize for Emerging Field Research Scientist was awarded to Professor Zelig Eshhar (Israel), Professor Carl H. June (USA) and Professor Michel Sadelain (USA) for their work in developing CAR-T cell therapy to treat cancer and other diseases. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh took the stage to present the main prize, worth 3 million USD of VinFuture to 5 scientists, for their groundbreaking contributions to promoting the advancement of Deep Learning, including: - Professor Yoshua Bengio and Professor Geoffrey E. Hinton, from Canada, for their pioneering research on neural networks and Deep Learning algorithms. - Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang, from the US, for his algorithmic architecture for deep learning and accelerated computing. - Professor Yann Lecun, from the US, for his pioneering research on convolutional neural networks for computer vision. - Professor Fei-Fei Li, from the US, for his pioneering contributions to computer vision and large-scale image recognition.
With the success of four consecutive seasons, the VinFuture Prize has increasingly affirmed its position as one of the most prestigious science and technology awards in the world. In particular, more and more VinFuture Prize winners continue to be honored at prestigious international awards around the world, demonstrating the vision and pioneering nature of VinFuture.
