VFDA President Ngo Phuong Lan emphasized: Vietnam is going through a period of strong transformation, with aspirations to rise in all fields, including cinema. In recent years, a team of talented young filmmakers and cinema training models are contributing a rich source of human resources for the country's cinema. In addition, the advantages of landscape, support policies from the Government and cooperation opportunities are continuing to open up positive signals.
Hollywood producer Matt Del Piano questioned the ability of Vietnamese partners to meet the strict requirements of international producers. In response, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan affirmed that Vietnam has many young talents and partners who can meet the high requirements of the international film industry. Although the Vietnamese film market still faces many challenges when exporting films, some Vietnamese films have been well received in international theaters and the market share is increasing, most clearly in the US.
One of the points emphasized at the event was Vietnam's financial and tax support policy for international film crews. The VFDA representative emphasized that although there is no direct tax refund policy like some other countries, Vietnam has updated and improved its film production licensing procedures, and provinces and cities are also committed to supporting the best prices for international film crews. Most film crews receive great support from local authorities, and service, labor, and accommodation costs are significantly reduced. Vietnamese Consul General in San Francisco Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed the Vietnamese Government's commitment to creating the most favorable conditions to attract international film projects, demonstrated through increasingly open support policies with the goal of continuing to affirm its position as an attractive destination for film crews.
International experts say that Vietnam currently possesses many beautiful and majestic natural landscapes that can become ideal settings for major film projects. However, the number of international films shot in Vietnam is still very small. Specific solutions are needed to narrow the gap between domestic and foreign filmmakers, connecting them with localities to promote film production. Specific solutions continue to emphasize the need to build a clear and accessible tax incentive system; simplify administrative procedures to reduce time and costs for producers.
In addition, studios in Vietnam currently do not meet the strict requirements of major film markets, so it is necessary to invest in a synchronous, modern and flexible system to help attract film projects. Unique natural landscapes need to be focused on developing into "natural studios" ready to serve cinema and tourism .
For cinema, it is necessary to strengthen training and develop human resources through specialized training programs and expand international cooperation so that human resources not only increase in quantity but also meet quality requirements. In addition, it is necessary to develop international communication campaigns to raise awareness of Vietnamese cinema; strongly develop domestic film distribution channels to international markets. To do so, increasing the distribution of Vietnamese films on online platforms or other services is an important bridge to conquer global audiences.
In order for Vietnam to become an attractive destination for international cinema and be able to export films to the world , it is necessary to have a comprehensive and synchronous strategy from infrastructure development, human resource training, to building reasonable support policies. These solutions not only help narrow the gap in film cooperation but also create great development opportunities for the Vietnamese film industry in the international arena, while effectively promoting the beauty of the country and people of Vietnam.
