According to the Miami Herald, the Venezuelan Supreme Court (TSJ) approved an arrest warrant for Argentine President Javier Milei, related to the confiscation of a Venezuelan airline Emtrasur plane in Buenos Aires.

Earlier, Attorney General Tarek William Saab ordered the arrest of President Milei, along with Presidential Secretary General Karina Milei and Security Minister Patricia Bullrich on charges of "aggravated theft, armed robbery, illegal detention" and "unlawful interference with the safety of civil aviation activities".

Tensions between the two South American countries revolve around a Boeing 747-300FM aircraft purchased by Emtrasur Cargo from Mahan Air, a private Iranian airline based in Tehran. In August 2022, Argentine authorities seized the aircraft at the request of the United States, based on sanctions imposed on Iran.

Venezuela has long protested the seizure of the plane, claiming that Argentina violated international law and demanding compensation from Buenos Aires. In March 2024, Caracas closed its airspace to flights to and from Argentina. Meanwhile, the Argentine government has declared its “absolute indifference” to the “nonsense” put forward by the Venezuelan government.
