Russian court fines Google for publishing personal information of Russian soldiers

The consumer watchdog Roskomnadzor received a decision on information on personnel losses of the Russian armed forces, names, personal data, while the dissemination of this information is prohibited in Russia.

The Tagansky Court in the Russian capital has issued an administrative fine against Google for publishing on YouTube the personal information of Russian servicemen who died during the special military operation in Ukraine.

The court said that the consumer watchdog Roskomnadzor received decisions on information about personnel losses of the Russian Armed Forces, names, personal data, while the dissemination of this information is prohibited in Russia.

Authorities later discovered the information published in a video posted on YouTube by Google LLC.

Google is accused of ignoring Russia’s call for dialogue on user protection. Google is also appealing a Russian court’s decision to fine it 8 billion rubles ($97.3 million).
