During his trips to border and island areas over the past decades, Thanh Niên reporters have always paid attention to capturing images of the national flag fluttering in the sun and wind, the sea, or the majestic mountains.
After a whole day, even several days and nights, climbing mountains and wading through forests along the border, with limbs aching and bodies exhausted to the point of collapse, suddenly, in the distance, in the valley, at the foot of the hill, on the mountaintop, a bright red flag with a yellow star fluttering in the wind, all weariness vanishes, replaced by laughter, excitement, and a step towards the flag. Because that is the border guard post, the school, the village of the local people. That is our homeland , our land, and our people.
The journey from the mainland to Truong Sa lasted several days and nights. The rough seas, torrential rain, and rocking of the ship caused even the healthiest people to suffer from seasickness, lying motionless and enduring the pain. However, a single shout of "There's the island!" and a glance through the ship's window, seeing the red flag with a yellow star fluttering on the distant sea, instantly brought everyone back to their senses. They embraced and cheered, holding hands. Because that was their island, their people, and their soldiers.
