At the ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malta and Vietnam, as well as the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Malta in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of December 13, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said that Malta is becoming the top choice of Vietnamese tourists when they want to explore Europe.
Located in the heart of the Mediterranean, this small island nation attracts millions of visitors each year thanks to its 300 days of glorious sunshine, UNESCO heritage cities and stunning turquoise beaches. To promote tourism and trade between Vietnam and Malta, establishing direct charter flights between the two countries is essential.
"Organizing direct flights from Vietnam to Malta will promote two-way tourism exchanges," Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long proposed.
According to Mr. Christopher Cutajar - Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Europe and Trade of Malta, over the past 50 years, the Vietnam - Malta relationship has achieved many remarkable achievements, based on the foundation of trust and mutual respect.
"Malta was one of the first Western European countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 14, 1974, demonstrating Malta's strong support for the Vietnamese people in their struggle for independence and national reunification," said Mr. Christopher Cutajar.
In addition, Vietnam - an important member of ASEAN, and Malta - a prosperous hub of the EU, are creating a strong inter-regional relationship.
In fact, Vietnam - Malta relations are developing strongly in many areas such as trade, tourism and education. In particular, the potential for tourism cooperation between the two countries is huge.
Regarding the relationship with Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that despite being geographically far apart, Vietnam and Malta have always maintained an effective cooperative relationship in many fields, from trade, education to cultural exchange.
In the coming time, with political trust, mutual understanding and complementary strengths, the Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City - Malta relationship will be ready to welcome new breakthroughs.
"Malta, with its strategic location in the heart of the Mediterranean and as a bridge between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East, has great potential for cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City as Vietnam's economic, cultural and innovation hub.
Compared to the potential between the two sides, there are still many opportunities and room for mutual exploitation and development," the vice chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed.
