Determining that “settling down and making a living” will help poor, near-poor, and housing-challenged households have stable housing, giving them the strength to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. With that practical meaning, in 2012, the Cai Dau Town Charity House Building Group was officially established. In the first years of operation, the Cai Dau Town Charity House Building Group mainly used wood materials to build houses. Over time, seeing that the group’s work brought many benefits to the community, philanthropists and people enthusiastically supported money, construction materials, and labor days to make the operation more effective.
The group's motto is that everyone participates voluntarily, those who have money will contribute money, those who do not have money will contribute labor, mainly from a compassionate heart. With the model of building Great Solidarity houses for the poor, the group mobilizes the participation and response of local Hoa Hao Buddhist followers to join hands, contribute labor, money, labor days... to create quality house frames, contributing to realizing the dream of "settling down" of the poor, helping them have more motivation to escape poverty. In recent years, the group has switched to building houses with zinc frames and corrugated iron roofs to improve quality and usage time. Mr. Nguyen Van Tham, Head of the Charity House Building Team of Cai Dau town said: “Studying and following the example of Uncle Ho and Uncle Ton in caring for people's lives, the members of the team not only build charity houses, but also participate in many social security activities in the locality, such as: Building roads, building bridges, helping the poor, helping poor students go to school... Recently, following the policy of the Party, the State, the local government is promoting the elimination of temporary houses and dilapidated houses for the poor, so the Hoa Hao Buddhist Executive Committee of Cai Dau town coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the town and the house building team to help people have more spacious houses for a better life”.

Belonging to the near-poor household with housing difficulties, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong's family (Cai Dau town) has 4 members, no land for production, raising 2 young children of school age, he and his wife do not have stable jobs, daily life depends on money from working for hire, construction work, life is very difficult, so building a solid house to protect from the rain and sun is impossible. Understanding the difficult circumstances of Mr. Phuong's family, in mid-March this year, from the funding source of the Program to Eliminate Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Cai Dau town, along with the family's savings, the team proceeded to build a new, spacious and sturdy house for Mr. Phuong's family. “The previous house was about to collapse, and my family could not afford to repair it. Thanks to the local government and the Cai Dau Town Charity House Building Group, my family was able to have a new house. I am very happy and grateful to the local government and everyone in the group. With a new house, my family will try to work hard to escape poverty and send our children to school,” Mr. Phuong said happily.
Up to now, the Cai Dau Town Charity House Building Group has built 638 new Great Unity houses, with a total amount of about 17.8 billion VND for poor, near-poor, and extremely disadvantaged households in and outside the district. Each completed house not only helps poor families stabilize their lives, but also demonstrates the care and responsibility of all levels, departments, branches, organizations, philanthropists and the sharing of the community... contributing to the good implementation of the Party's policies and the State's policies on ensuring social security, especially the implementation of the Government's policy on eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.
Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cai Dau town Tran Cam Nhung said: "In the past time, the Cai Dau town charity house building team has joined hands with the local government to build houses for poor, near-poor and extremely disadvantaged households, helping people to have new houses to stabilize their lives, thereby rising out of poverty." |
