TKV adds nearly 1 million tons of coal to thermal power, ensuring power supply during hot season

According to information from the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Group (TKV), it is expected that in 2023, the Group will provide enough volume of contracts signed with thermal power plants. For BOT thermal power plants alone, with EVN's mobilization progress, TKV may have to increase the supply by about 2,000,000 tons. Thus, the total volume of coal supplied to thermal power plants in 2023 by TKV will exceed the 2023 plan by about 6%.

In the first 4 months of 2023, TKV delivered 13.527 million tons of coal to thermal power plants, equivalent to 35% of the contract volume. Of which, TKV delivered ahead of schedule to a number of BOT thermal power plants that mobilized a high amount of coal (4.838 million tons, equal to 43.2% of the annual plan of 11.2 million tons).

In particular, implementing the direction of the Minister of Industry and Trade at the meeting on May 13, 2023 as well as the spirit of unity in the working session between the leaders of the two groups TKV - EVN on May 9 on balancing the increased volume of coal supplied to EVN's thermal power plants in the dry months of May-June-July 2023, TKV immediately deployed and provided an additional 300,000 tons to EVN's thermal power plants in the second half of May 2023.

In June-July 2023, TKV said it will increase the volume supplied to thermal power plants by about 180,000 tons/month, of which EVN plants will receive about 80,000 tons/month, an increase of 6% compared to the progress committed in the contract.

For BOT thermal power plants alone, with EVN's mobilization progress, TKV may have to increase the supply by about 2,000,000 tons.

Thus, the total volume of coal supplied to thermal power plants in 2023 by TKV will exceed the 2023 plan by about 6%.

It is known that in order to prepare enough coal supply for thermal power plants, TKV has been negotiating with thermal power plants since October 2022 and has built a coal consumption plan for 2023 of 46.5 million tons. Of which, coal supplied to thermal power plants is 38.52 million tons (equal to 83%).

In addition to domestic coal that must be supplied to BOT projects; coal specific to the regions of Viet Bac, Nong Son, low-quality coal supplied to thermal power plants under TKV, domestic coal supplied for the trial run of Unit 2 of Thai Binh 2 Thermal Power Plant and domestic coal supplied to Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant to maintain the Mao Khe - Pha Lai railway line, the rest is to supply imported blended coal to thermal power plants.

In 2023, TKV will provide additional imported blended coal types 5a.14, 5b.14, 6a.14 with a maximum dry volatile matter index of 12% suitable for the technology of a number of new thermal power plants to ensure sufficient coal supply for the plants to operate.
