Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Looking up, I saw my husband, Captain Pham Chi Cong, Assistant to the Propaganda Department, Political Office, 302nd Division (Military Region 7), holding a bouquet of flowers, waiting to welcome me home after a long business trip.

Through Diệu's story, we truly admire the love story of this young couple who overcame countless obstacles. In 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic was unfolding, they met while both were assisting local medical forces in fighting the epidemic. The young teacher was assisting with sample collection at the health station, while the officer helped with triage and paperwork for the public. Each had their own task, and they were both wearing masks, so at that time, Công was only impressed by the young teacher's gentle voice and tall, slender figure. He proactively asked for her phone number, saying it would be easier to communicate about work.

After completing the campaign, they both returned to their units and had few opportunities to talk. It wasn't until two years later, when she posted something on her personal Facebook page, that she saw his playful comment and politely replied. From then on, the young officer initiated more frequent messages. Before they knew it, those messages and calls had become an indispensable part of their lives.

One time, Chi Cong invited the young teacher to his hometown as a friend, and also brought along his best friend. Thinking it was just a normal trip, Dieu didn't know that Cong had made preparations beforehand. Upon arriving, the young officer introduced her to his parents and relatives as his girlfriend. Taken by surprise and unprepared, she could only give him a forced smile.

Taking his girlfriend on a tour of his dreamy hometown of Da Lat, watching the sunset over the river, holding her hand, he finally confessed: “This is the first time we’ve met, and although I haven’t seen your face, your voice has given me a feeling of closeness and warmth. Every action and gesture of yours has charmed me. For the past two years, because of work, I’ve been so eager to talk to you, but I’ve had to wait. Now I dare to confess: Let’s be in love, okay?”

Every week, he expressed his affection for his girlfriend through handwritten letters filled with longing and simple gifts—sometimes a teddy bear during the changing seasons, other times a woolen hat he had carefully chosen... Each gift was cherished by the young teacher, placed in the most prominent position on her desk so that whenever she missed him or faced difficulties in life, she could use it as motivation to keep going. After visiting his unit and meeting his comrades, she learned that he was a responsible worker, cheerful, amiable, humorous, and thoughtful, well-liked by everyone, which further strengthened Diệu's belief in her choice.

When two hearts beat as one, geographical distance is no longer a barrier to them considering a long-term relationship, even though he's from Da Lat and she's from Bac Lieu . In July 2024, Hoai Dieu and Chi Cong officially tied the knot and built a home filled with laughter.
