Mudryk has consistently maintained his innocence. |
The information was confirmed by Sergei Palkin, CEO of Shakhtar Donetsk. This is Mudryk's former club and also a financial stakeholder in the player's transfer to Chelsea.
"Mudryk was completely surprised and didn't understand what was happening. He voluntarily took the lie detector test, and the results showed that the player did not intentionally violate the rules," Palkin revealed.
Shakhtar could lose out on €30 million in performance-related bonuses if Mudryk does not continue playing for Chelsea. According to the transfer agreement, this money is only activated if the Ukrainian player performs and reaches certain milestones.
This means that if Mudryk receives a lengthy ban, Chelsea could avoid spending tens of millions of pounds. However, both Shakhtar and Chelsea share the goal of clearing the player's name so he can return as soon as possible.
"We're all in the same boat. Everyone hopes Mudryk gets to play," Palkin emphasized.

Mudryk will not play for Chelsea since November 2024. |
Mudryk is currently suspended after testing positive for the banned substance Meldonium. However, the results from sample B – a crucial factor in determining whether a violation actually occurred – have yet to be released.
The Ukrainian player shared on social media that he was completely shocked and denied any wrongdoing: "I never intentionally used any banned substances. My team and I are working together to find out the cause. I believe I am innocent and hope to return to playing soon."
Up until the time of his suspension, Mudryk had only scored 10 goals in 79 appearances for Chelsea, and had yet to score in the Premier League this season.
If the results of sample B confirm the violation, Mudryk could face a ban of up to four years, similar to Paul Pogba's case, although he later appealed successfully and had his sentence reduced to 18 months.
