The Ministry of Construction has just issued a document responding to the petition of voters of Thai Binh province regarding the construction of the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong railway line.
Accordingly, Thai Binh voters recommended that the Ministry of Construction pay attention to researching investment and construction of the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong railway connecting with the North - South high-speed railway to facilitate socio-economic development and in line with the Government's policy on developing the Thai Binh economic zone.
Responding to this proposal, the Ministry of Construction said that according to the railway network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh coastal railway has a length of about 101km, a gauge of 1435mm; the investment roadmap is after 2030.
Currently, there are two modes of transport on this corridor: road and waterway. Of which, freight transport is mainly by road, inland waterway and coastal. The Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh expressway has been invested and can meet the demand for passenger transport until 2045.
Furthermore, according to the forecast of transport demand in the railway network planning, by 2050 the demand for railway transport for passengers will be about 1.5-3.5 million passengers/year and for goods about 1.5-2.5 million tons/year.
Therefore, investment in the Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh coastal railway will be considered when the demand for freight and passenger transport increases.
