In the first 6 months of 2024, the people's transportation and travel needs continued to increase, creating great pressure on ensuring traffic safety and order. However, with the strong direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, and the active participation of ministries, branches and localities, the traffic safety and order situation in the first 6 months of 2024 was basically guaranteed.

Traffic congestion is well controlled and has decreased by over 65% compared to the same period in 2023; the number of traffic accidents caused by drivers violating alcohol concentration regulations during peak periods has decreased significantly compared to previous years. Violations of overloading vehicles and vehicle bed extensions have been fundamentally handled.

However, nationwide, there were 12,350 traffic accidents, killing 5,343 people and injuring 9,552 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, there was an increase of 1,665 cases (+15.58%), a decrease of 634 deaths (-10.61%), and an increase of 2,426 injuries (+34%).

Speaking at the conference, Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Transport Trinh Huy Trieu said: In the first 6 months of 2024, the whole province had 478 traffic accidents and traffic collisions, killing 175 people and injuring 447 people. Compared to the same period in 2023, traffic accidents decreased in number of cases and deaths, down 19 cases (down 3.8%), down 71 deaths (down 28.8%); no waterway traffic accidents and traffic jams occurred.
To maintain a stable traffic safety situation in the third quarter of 2024, Thanh Hoa province continues to enhance the responsibility and effectiveness of State management of the heads and collective leaders of State management agencies in ensuring traffic safety. Promote the dissemination of traffic safety law compliance to people, transport business owners, vehicle owners, vehicle drivers, workers in factories, industrial parks, and youth and students. Speed up the progress and quality of investment in construction and upgrading of traffic projects; perform well the maintenance and repair of traffic infrastructure, ensure traffic safety corridors and traffic safety. Continue to tighten the management of road transport business vehicles through data from journey monitoring devices and cameras to promptly detect, correct and handle violations. Direct functional forces to maintain patrol and control work; timely assess, analyze and clarify the causes of traffic accidents. Continue to strictly handle vehicles that violate regulations on carrying more people, oversize, overload, or expanding the cargo compartment; at the same time, resolutely handle drivers on the road with drugs or alcohol in their body...

Concluding the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang emphasized: Although the number of deaths due to traffic accidents in the first 6 months of 2024 decreased, the number of accidents and injuries increased. This is one of the huge burdens on society. Therefore, to control accidents, the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries and branches to continue focusing on 3 groups of solutions. That is, to step up propaganda, raise awareness of traffic participants, manage roadsides and traffic corridors; manage vehicles well to prevent violations that cause accidents; prioritize investment in traffic infrastructure renovation...
