Speaking at the 2019 Homeland Spring program, the General Secretary once said: "For the country and people of Vietnam, overseas Vietnamese, no matter where they are, are always an inseparable part of the Fatherland."

Sincere words, affectionate gestures and eyes or warm handshakes in intimate meetings have left an unforgettable impression on millions of Lac Hong descendants far from the Fatherland. Therefore, upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, the Vietnamese community all over the world shared a choked emotion, infinitely mourning the leader in whom the people placed their trust and love.

Trust in talented young generation

As for Ninh Duc Hoang Long, a Hungarian expatriate, upon hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, he expressed his infinite sorrow. Long believes that this is certainly not only his own sadness but also a great loss for the entire nation.

Sharing his lucky memories of meeting the General Secretary, Ninh Duc Hoang Long said that as an Opera artist of the Hungarian National Opera House, during the Vietnam - Hungary state-level diplomatic meeting in October 2018, he was honored to perform to welcome General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the high-ranking delegations of the two countries at the Hungarian Parliament.

After the performance, having the opportunity to meet the General Secretary in person, the 33-year-old man felt indescribable emotions when he saw the General Secretary's warm smile and affectionate, caring eyes. "He said he was very happy and proud, and told me to continue to strive to improve myself to build a good image of Vietnamese people in foreign lands and continue to be a cultural bridge between the two countries. Those words were not only encouragement but also a message full of affection and responsibility," Long choked up as he recounted.

Four months later, during his return trip to attend the 2019 Homeland Spring program with a delegation of outstanding overseas Vietnamese, Hoang Long was once again honored to meet the General Secretary during the incense offering ceremony at Ngoc Son Temple. Recalling this moment, Hoang Long still clearly remembers the emotional feeling when, among hundreds of overseas Vietnamese, the General Secretary still recognized and shook his hand. Having met him twice, both times left Ninh Duc Hoang Long with deep impressions and boundless gratitude.

"The simple, rustic and emotional image of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has left a deep impression on me. I feel his sincere affection and concern for the Vietnamese community far from the Fatherland as well as the domestic artists. It is this concern and encouragement that has helped me and many others in the overseas Vietnamese community to be more attached to our roots and proud of our country. The teachings and example of the General Secretary will forever be a source of motivation for me and the younger generation, especially the younger generation of Vietnamese people abroad, to continue to strive to make many practical contributions and contributions to the country," Ninh Duc Hoang Long emotionally shared.

Inspire national unity

As an overseas Vietnamese studying, living and working in Korea for nearly 20 years, Dr. Tran Hai Linh, member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Chairman of the Vietnam - Korea Business and Investment Association, had the honor of meeting General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong twice in Korea, both in his capacity as Chairman of the National Assembly (in 2008) and then as General Secretary (in 2014).

Immediately after the solemn welcoming ceremony upon his arrival in Korea, around the evening of October 1, 2014, in Seoul, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited the Embassy and had a friendly talk with the Vietnamese community in Korea. In the busy schedule of the visit, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's meeting with the Vietnamese community showed his affection and love for his compatriots far from the Fatherland.

At that time, as Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese in Korea, Mr. Tran Hai Linh was honored to represent the community to send a bouquet of fresh flowers to the General Secretary.

During the meeting, Mr. Linh said that not only he but also the Vietnamese community in Korea expressed their emotion and impression with the General Secretary's gentle and warm words. That is: "The consistent policy of the Party and State is to always consider the Vietnamese community abroad as an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community, always creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilize their lives, integrate into the local society; help the community maintain and promote the national cultural identity, and turn towards the homeland".

Great solidarity and maintaining and developing national culture are two of the many issues that the General Secretary has emphasized many times. The General Secretary hopes that people will strictly abide by the laws of the host country, unite and support each other; at the same time, preserve national cultural identity, turn towards the homeland; join hands with the Party and State, and contribute to developing the Vietnam-Korea relationship more practically and effectively.

The second time he met the General Secretary, Mr. Tran Hai Linh said, it was during the Spring Homeland program in 2019. After performing the traditional carp releasing ceremony, the General Secretary and President had a friendly conversation with each representative of overseas Vietnamese from each country. He kindly asked about the living conditions, work, and business of overseas Vietnamese; encouraged them to always unite, strive to overcome difficulties, integrate into the local society, while preserving the national cultural identity, always looking towards the homeland and country.

Mr. Tran Hai Linh recounted that when it was his turn, the General Secretary said: "Here are the Korean expatriates" and he held his hand very tightly and for a long time. He briefly reported on the community situation, the General Secretary said: "Try harder, Linh!", then turned to all the overseas Vietnamese present at the ceremony and said: "I wish all of you a new year of good health, prosperity, and all the best for our country to develop further."

"The General Secretary is also simple and close to the people, inspiring all overseas Vietnamese about the spirit of great national unity," Mr. Linh shared.

A model of modesty, exemplary, simplicity

Upon hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, Dr. Nguyen Duy Nhien, President of the Vietnamese Association in the Czech Republic, was shocked, saddened and saddened. Because in his mind and impression as well as the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a leader who is loved, trusted and respected by the people.

The imprints left by the General Secretary not only encourage and create trust but also enhance the spirit of great national unity in the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic in particular, and overseas Vietnamese around the world in general, towards the Fatherland. It can be said that, in recent times, the policies and guidelines have clearly demonstrated the sentiments and responsibilities of the Party and State in caring for the Vietnamese community abroad; at the same time, attracting and mobilizing resources, sentiments and solidarity of overseas Vietnamese.

Dr. Nguyen Duy Nhien shared that the General Secretary is a kind and humane person, a shining example of morality, wholeheartedly sacrificing for the country; but he is also a simple, approachable person, with much affection for the Vietnamese community abroad. Dr. Nguyen Duy Nhien recalled the official visit to the Czech Republic in 2009 by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as Chairman of the National Assembly. The first place the National Assembly Chairman visited was the Vietnamese language teaching center for overseas Vietnamese children in the Czech Republic. The National Assembly Chairman kindly gave instructions on the work of preserving and promoting national cultural values, preserving the Vietnamese language for young generations born and raised abroad...

Honored to meet the General Secretary when participating in the Homeland Spring program in 2019, Dr. Nguyen Duy Nhien recalled: "It was a very firm, warm and emotional handshake. I can never forget. Reporting to the General Secretary that the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic had been recognized by the Czech Government as the 14th ethnic minority, I saw the General Secretary very happy, nodding and smiling affectionately."

In the context of many advantages mixed with difficulties, many fluctuations in the world and the region, Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhien was most impressed with the requirement to build a comprehensive and modern diplomacy, bearing the identity of Vietnamese bamboo, by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Thanks to the correct foreign policy of the Party and State, the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic in particular, and all over the world in general, are all assured to study, live and work.

"Remembering the General Secretary, each overseas Vietnamese remembers a shining example of revolutionary morality; thereby strengthening the love for the country, strengthening the great national unity, joining hands to build and develop a rich and strong country," said Mr. Nguyen Duy Nhien.
