This new road system will form a backbone traffic axis connecting Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City with the largest port cluster in the country (Cai Mep - Thi Vai) in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, solving the increasingly serious traffic congestion on National Highway 51; promoting the socio-economic development of Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces in particular and the Southeast region in general.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province Nguyen Van Tho informed that the project's site clearance and compensation work has reached 90%. The province has allocated enough provincial budget capital to carry out the tasks under the locality's tasks; completed the project investment preparation procedures such as selecting and signing contracts with contractors, preparing raw materials, ensuring that the project can be implemented immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway is expected to create new development momentum for the Southeast region.

“When completed, the project will shorten the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria from 150 minutes to 70 minutes. The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway will also help businesses reduce costs, increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods, and create momentum for the Southeast region to develop even more strongly in the future,” Mr. Nguyen Van Tho emphasized.

Phase 1 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway project is expected to be basically completed in 2025 and put into operation in 2026 with a scale of 4 lanes. In the completion phase, the expressway will be expanded to ensure a scale of 6-8 lanes.

Also on the morning of June 18, the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Phuoc An bridge project. This is a special traffic project, helping to connect the Cai Mep - Thi Vai inter-port route with Nhon Trach district (Dong Nai province), connecting inter-regional expressways such as Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, shortening the distance of transporting goods to the Southwest region by nearly 30km and vice versa. At the same time, it reduces the load on the only route to Vung Tau - National Highway 51, which has been overloaded for many years.
