Specifically, the insurance agency said that from July 1, 2024, the basic salary will increase from 1.8 million VND to 2.34 million VND, leading to an increase in health insurance premiums, making it more difficult for many people to participate.
Especially the group of people escaping poverty, escaping near-poverty, people with disabilities, students in difficult circumstances, ethnic minorities, the elderly without pensions, social benefits and households with average living standards.
Accordingly, the minimum household health insurance premium increased from VND 81,000/month to VND 105,300/month (1.3 times increase), causing difficulties in mobilizing people to participate in health insurance.
In the period 2022 - 2024, the City Social Insurance has paid nearly 67,900 billion VND to health insurance participants. This amount of money has supported many people when they are sick, ill, or in times of financial difficulty.
Besides, retired workers without pensions will be a burden on the budget, so encourage more people to participate in voluntary social insurance with budget support suitable to the socio-economic conditions of the capital.
Health insurance premium support levels range from 30-100%, and voluntary social insurance premium support levels range from 20-75%. If approved, the policy will take effect from January 1, 2026. It is expected that about 614,000 people will benefit. The total cost is nearly VND709 billion.

Every year in Vietnam, about 22,000 - 30,000 children are born with birth defects.
On the afternoon of February 18, according to information from Hung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, each year Vietnam has an estimated 22,000 - 30,000 children born with congenital malformations, of which the most common are Down syndrome, Edwards syndrome, neural tube defects, congenital hypothyroidism, G6PD deficiency, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, severe congenital hemolytic anemia and other genetic diseases and congenital malformations.
Meanwhile, couples today pay little attention to this issue. If they do go for premarital check-ups, they are only concerned about how they will have children, not about whether they carry any diseases or have disease genes.
According to medical experts, couples should plan to have a medical examination about 3-6 months before getting married - Wedding illustration photo drawn by AI
Premarital health check-ups, including general health check-ups and reproductive health check-ups, will help detect diseases that can affect your health and your partner's health so that you can have an early treatment plan, such as hepatitis B or genetic diseases, heart disease, reproductive tract diseases, etc.
This is also considered a form of first-step screening in improving population quality.
Premarital examination not only helps couples better understand their own health status and that of their partner, but also helps detect early potential diseases that can affect reproductive health and family happiness.
Doctors say that premarital health consultation and examination is one of the necessary and important factors to help men and women preparing for marriage to be equipped with more knowledge about health care; to have their overall health checked and assessed, thereby preparing conditions for a happy married life, including giving birth to healthy children.
