Gold prices fell from a record high on Monday (April 14) after US President Donald Trump excluded smartphones and computers from his tariff list against China. However, uncertainty surrounding the tariff plan kept prices above $3,200 an ounce. Spot gold fell 0.9% to $3,207.39 an ounce at 10:40 GMT, after hitting a record high of $3,245.42 an ounce earlier in the day.
Market sentiment has improved somewhat following President Trump’s decision, leading to a slight drop in gold prices, possibly due to profit-taking by investors, said Zain Vawda, an analyst at MarketPulse by OANDA. Gold is considered a hedge against geopolitical and economic uncertainties.
While gold prices may see a temporary pullback, Vawda said a US-China deal is unlikely in the near term. Global tariffs continue to pose challenges, keeping demand for safe-haven assets like gold strong. A weaker US dollar also supports the appeal of gold.
Goldman Sachs, one of the largest banks, remains bullish on gold. It has raised its year-end gold price forecast to $3,700 an ounce, citing strong demand from central banks and rising recession risks. In extreme scenarios, gold could even hit $4,500 an ounce if the market focuses on risks related to Federal Reserve policy or changes in US reserve policy.

Marc Chandler, Director of Bannockburn Global Forex, said that the price of $ 3,300 to $ 3,500 / ounce is completely feasible in the medium term.
