Pepper prices today continue to reflect the stable trend at a high level in the global market, especially in key producing countries. Data from key markets shows that Indonesia maintained the price of 7,239 USD/ton (187,925 VND/kg) for black pepper and 10,066 USD/ton (261,314 VND/kg) for white pepper, while Vietnam recorded the price of 550 g/l black pepper at 7,300 USD/ton (189,508 VND/kg). Notably, Brazil was the only bright spot with a decrease of 0.72% due to local adjustment pressure.

The main reason for the sideways trend in pepper prices today is the 20-30% decrease in harvest output in key growing areas due to the impact of El Niño. The 2024-2025 harvest has passed the halfway point, but supply remains tight, causing many farmers in the Central Highlands and Southeast to continue their hoarding strategy. Statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development show that national pepper inventories are only 35% over the same period, creating pressure on basic prices.

Regarding exports, pepper prices today are supported by stable import demand from the US market - a partner that accounts for 62% of Vietnam's total pepper export turnover in 2024. Forecasts from the World Pepper Association (IPC) emphasize that if output does not improve in the third quarter, global pepper prices could reach $8,000/ton due to supply competition between food and pharmaceutical processing plants. This development poses a challenge for export enterprises in balancing long-term contracts.
