Implementing the Government's digital transformation policy and the Ministry of Health 's direction (Decision 5316/QD-BYT), many hospitals in Hanoi have pioneered in bringing services to digital platforms. Notably, since the end of 2024, Zalo Mini App has become a powerful "assistant" to help hospitals solve long-standing bottlenecks such as overload or long waiting times.

From lining up at 4am to seeing my appointment just 15 minutes early

Phu Xuyen District General Hospital is one of the first units to build Zalo Mini App (a sub-application on the Zalo platform - PV), to support digital transformation activities at the hospital. Ms. Dao Thi Nga, Head of the IT team, shared: “Previously, patients had to queue from 3-4 am even though the hospital opened at 7 am. Now, by simply making an appointment via Zalo, patients only need to arrive 15 minutes in advance to be examined immediately. Hospital staff also reduced the pressure of triage or the number of patients having to deal with too many in the morning. The results were impressive: reception time was shortened from 5 minutes to 30 seconds (reducing time by 10 times), 100% of patients were satisfied with the digital service experience at the hospital.

Similarly, Quoc Oai District General Hospital recorded remarkable progress after more than a year of implementing Zalo Mini App. In 2024, the rate of online medical examination registration accounted for about 17.26% (9,507 online visits/total 55,070 medical examinations), the reception time was reduced from 10 minutes to only about 20 seconds, and the rate of returning to re-examination on Zalo Mini App reached 100%. In the first two months of 2025, Quoc Oai District General Hospital recorded an increase in the rate of online medical examination bookings to 21.8% (3,391 online visits/total 15,561 medical examinations).

Similarly, at Hoai Duc District General Hospital, the rate of online appointment bookings reached 6% (1,431 online appointments/total 23,981 appointments) in 2024. This number increased to 10% in the first 2 months of 2025 (844 online appointments/total 8,434 appointments).

The above figures show that people have gradually formed the habit of making appointments through online applications to make medical examinations more convenient, easier and faster.

Parallel technology, double efficiency

In addition to Zalo Mini App, hospitals also deploy self-service kiosks that integrate citizen ID card scanning, automatically retrieve information from the Social Security portal, helping to reduce paperwork. In addition, many other advanced technologies are also applied such as. Electronic medical records (EMR) system allows storing and sharing patient data between medical facilities, supporting doctors to diagnose more accurately. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is integrated in imaging diagnosis (such as MRI, CT) and automatic consulting chatbots, helping to answer patient questions 24/7. The Internet of Things (IoT) also appears through health monitoring wearable devices, connecting directly to the hospital system to promptly warn of abnormal signs.

This combination not only shortens waiting time but also simplifies data collection, payment and supports patients to access information quickly. With the roadmap to 2030, solutions such as Zalo Mini App, AI, IoT or Telehealth system (remote medical examination and treatment) promise to be replicated, bringing the healthcare industry closer to the goal of being modern, convenient and serving the people best.
