Finding the Body: Headless Ghost - Director Bui Van Hai - is a Vietnamese film that is currently topping the box office charts. Box Office Vietnam (independent observer). The project attracted attention because it brought together a famous cast including Tien Luat, Ngo Kien Huy, People's Artist Hong Van... promise to bring an attractive, quality entertainment work.
Unfortunately, the film was a huge disappointment because the script lacked depth and the narrative was bland. Ngo Kien Huy's acting was also unconvincing, receiving many criticisms.
The script has many flaws.
Find the body: Headless Ghost The film begins with two characters: Tien (Tien Luat), a corpse collector, and Thanh (Ngo Kien Huy), an ambulance driver. Both are accidentally caught up in a strange case while transporting a headless body.
Together with Mr. Trung (Dai Nghia), the trio began their journey to find the identity of the body and then faced a series of supernatural phenomena.
The film has an interesting initial idea, but the script lacks coherence. The forced details create many unacceptable loopholes. For example, the two main characters constantly fall into dangerous situations but are easily resolved. That makes the story less dramatic and less convincing.
The horror scenes in the film lack investment, mainly familiar images such as ghosts passing by or noises in the night. The comedy element is also disappointing. Many lines and comedy situations are old and familiar in other works. The juggling scenes between Ngo Kien Huy and Tien Luat are overused, causing boredom.
The topic of the corpse collecting profession is not explored in depth. The film does not provide a clear perspective on the meaning or difficulty of this job, only stopping at the level of raising the issue to create a series of situations that follow.
The film's script also tries to incorporate the mother-son love story between Tien and Mrs. Hong (People's Artist Hong Van) - a mother with psychosis. However, the lack of subtlety in the implementation makes the message become empty.
The story gets boring towards the end. The script is also not good. build Despite the twist being heavy enough to surprise the audience, the ending is bland and lacking in highlights.
Ngo Kien Huy is disappointing
The cast is almost the only thing that makes this Find the body: Headless Ghost got attention. But they couldn't save the weak script.
Ngo Kien Huy returns to the big screen after many years of absence. But he chose a rather bland role. Playing the cowardly driver Thanh, Ngo Kien Huy tries to show humor and panic to make people laugh. However, his acting is sometimes too much, creating an unnatural feeling.
From exaggerated expressions to screaming when encountering ghosts, the dialogue is also not deep enough, making Thanh's character ostentatious and difficult to sympathize with.
Compared to his previous roles, Ngo Kien Huy has not shown much change in style. He has even fallen into a one-dimensional acting style, focusing only on making people laugh while ignoring psychological depth.
Similarly, Tien Luat also failed to leave an impression with his role as Tien. He tried to portray an emotional and responsible man with a lot of depth. However, Tien Luat's acting style was still simple, reminiscent of his familiar comedy roles. In scenes that required depth, he handled it rather awkwardly, making the character unable to create a connection with the audience.
The supporting actors are average, not leaving enough of an impression to save the film. People's Artist Hong Van appears too little, and the psychological scenes are not explored deeply enough to leave a strong impression on the audience.
Find the body: Headless Ghost launched at the time Tunnels: Sun in the Dark is causing a fever. The film quickly defeated its competitors to top the charts. Box Office Vietnam .
Unfortunately, the film received negative feedback from both audiences and critics. On social media groups and forums, many people criticized the illogical script, weak horror elements, and disappointing performance by Ngo Kien Huy. Some people even bluntly said that this was a "new disaster" for Vietnamese cinema.
Up to now, the project has earned more than 36 billion VND. However, the film's media effect is not good. In the near future, the project will clash with a series of films released on the occasion of April 30, especially two works Ly Hai and Victor Vu. So it is likely that Ngo Kien Huy and Tien Luat's films will hardly reach the 50 billion VND mark.
Overall, Find the body: headless ghost failed to create a fresh story. The horror and humor elements were also weak, causing the film to lose points. Instead of making a good impression on the audience, Ngo Kien Huy had another forgettable role in his career.
