Australia’s first gold rush took place in the 1890s around the Victorian towns of Ballarat and Bendigo, but commercial mining of the precious metal today is largely based in Western Australia. Photo: Supplied/perthnow.com.au.

According to Tyle, gold is still a good investment and a “hedge” against inflation. Therefore, she advises anyone who finds a large gold nugget to “hold on to it as long as possible” rather than sell it. Photo: discovery.com.
