A group of 8th grade students from Hien Quan Secondary School (Hien Quan Commune, Tam Nong District) went swimming in the river, 5 students were suddenly swept away and went missing.
On the evening of November 18, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tam Nong district (Phu Tho) said that a tragic drowning incident had just occurred in the area, leaving 5 students missing.
The five students who drowned and went missing were all in grade 8 and lived in Hien Quan commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province.

Previously, at around 3:50 p.m. on November 18, this group of 10 students rode bicycles and electric bicycles to the Red River alluvial area in Zone 1, Hien Quan Commune, Tam Nong District (Phu Tho) to play and 6 of them went swimming in the river. Among them, one student was lucky enough to swim to shore and escape.
At 7:30 p.m. the same day, Mr. Hung said that the authorities had found the body of a female student.
"The elite search and rescue force of Phu Tho province is coordinating with forces on duty at Phong Chau bridge area to participate in the search for the students," said Mr. Hung.
