When storm No. 3 made landfall in Quang Ninh province on September 7, the Hong Gai ship of Quang Ninh Port Joint Stock Company, which was anchored in the Bo Nau cave area, sank.
Previously, the search and rescue team had rescued one crew member, while six crew members were missing. On September 12, during the search and rescue of the crew members of the sunken Hong Gai ship in Ha Long Bay, divers and ships coordinating with the SAR 411 ship of the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Center found two bodies in the sunken ship.
The bodies of two victims trapped in the Hong Gai ship were brought by divers onto the SAR 411 ship to be handed over to the authorities of Quang Ninh province.
At the time of the search, the weather was favorable with southerly winds at level 3-4, calm seas, and visibility of 4-10km. Ships were asked to increase observation with binoculars, and SAR 411's working boats were mobilized to search in areas near the ravine.
Divers were assigned to continue searching for victims around the wreck site and continue to broadcast maritime communications.
SAR 411 ship continues to conduct search and rescue operations in Ha Long Bay.
At 6:15 a.m. on September 12, the Ha Long 08 ship and the Thien Long canoe arrived at the scene to carry out diving work to search for victims in the sunken ship. Mr. Dao Van Hien, Deputy Director of the Search and Rescue Center of Region I, said that on the morning of September 12, divers discovered a body in the Hong Gai ship. At 11:30 a.m., the body was removed from the sunken ship. At 12:15 p.m., divers continued to discover a second body. Two bodies from the Hong Gai ship were brought to the SAR 411 ship by divers.
The working group of SAR 411 handed over the two bodies to the fire police boat of PC07 of Quang Ninh province to bring them ashore for verification. The diving group has now stopped searching and moved back to shore. Meanwhile, SAR 411 continues to search around the area where the Hong Gai ship sank to carry out the search.
