Finding high quality human resources for tourism development

We always raise the issue of connectivity in tourism development; but the reality is that in the process of surveying connecting routes, there is a lack of synchronization that has created a "lameness" in building a complete tour product. There are many reasons leading to this situation, but the core is the biggest "disease" of Mekong Delta tourism: the lack of high-quality human resources (HR) in the tourism sector of this region.

The experience of agricultural tourism in the Mekong Delta is developing, but it is not really attractive when building products that are still "naturalized" and not highly professional.

During the surveys for tour operators, experts in the field of travel and accommodation; recorded many comments from local tourism products. Among them, there is a common point that is abundant and attractive potential, but to build a tourism tour, a long-term cooperation program, there are many limitations. The comments are very important, but they are only "external forces", especially with thematic routes in depth about indigenous culture, it is necessary for the local people to build them to create products with the strong spirit and soul of the culture, land and local people, that is what tourists need to spend money to buy a tourism tour.

Currently, many localities are building farmstays, agricultural tourism experience spots... but most of them do not have expertise in the agricultural field, which easily leads to the attraction of curiosity of a number of initial visitors, but to put into professional tour exploitation is very unstable.

The reason for the lack of tourism human resources in the Mekong Delta has been solved by localities only at the "tip of the iceberg", through training sessions of intensive training programs, only aiming to standardize ordinary workers. However, the demand for high-quality human resources is difficult to attract for many reasons, including income and working environment issues that are not really attractive to highly specialized human resources in the tourism sector.

MSc. Phan Buu Toan - Vice Principal of Saigon College of Tourism, said that the shortage of well-trained human resources not only reduces service quality but also directly affects the ability to attract visitors and investment in the region. Tourists often comment that although the people of the Mekong Delta are friendly and enthusiastic, the lack of professionalism in service and tour guides is a weakness that limits the tourism experience.

In the current linkage, we need to raise the issue of linkage in training, in order to create a more balanced tourism service team between localities. These challenges pose an urgent need for strengthening linkage in training and developing human resources to improve service quality, improve tourism product quality, helping the Mekong Delta region to enhance its competitiveness in the domestic and international tourism market.

The Mekong Delta is assessed to have abundant tourism potential, but still lacks competitiveness due to many reasons, including the lack of high-quality human resources.

Linking human resource training will solve the problem of "inconsistent" quality of tourism between localities. According to Master Phan Buu Toan, linking human resource training plays an important role in coordinating resources and sharing experiences between localities and training institutions. This helps to minimize the gap in quality of human resources between localities; at the same time, making the most of available human resources to create more effective training programs. When provinces are closely linked with each other and training institutions, the organization of specialized courses, practice sessions and seminars will be carried out in a more synchronous and appropriate manner to the actual needs of the tourism industry.

A high-quality workforce is an important factor in attracting investment. Enterprises always prioritize areas with available quality human resources, capable of quickly meeting job requirements without requiring much time and cost for retraining. Therefore, building training cooperation programs between provinces and enterprises not only helps to provide human resources to meet market demand but also creates a more favorable investment environment.
