Trade unions at all levels are striving to find solutions to bring practical benefits to union members and workers. Thereby, contributing to helping many union members and workers reduce difficulties, improve living conditions, ensure better welfare, and create cohesion between union members and workers and the trade union organization.


Efforts to negotiate a wage increase for workers

Mr. Luu Kim Hong, Chairman of the Trade Union of Nidec Vietnam Company, located in the High-Tech Park of Ho Chi Minh City, said that recently, after more than 3 months of discussion and negotiation between the Trade Union and the Company's Board of Directors, the two sides agreed to increase wages for all employees in the company.

The increase applied to each job position ranges from VND300,000 to VND773,000/person/month. In addition to increasing salaries for nearly 3,500 employees of the company, some positions also receive an increase in salary allowance from VND60,000 - VND150,000/person/month. What is special is that this salary increase and salary allowance are "retroactive", applied from July 1, 2024.

According to Mr. Luu Kim Hong, after the State decided to increase the regional minimum wage from July 1, although the company's basic salary was higher than 4.96 million VND/month (region I minimum wage), the company increased the basic salary for all employees every year, but the employees still wanted to increase their salary when the Government adjusted the regional minimum wage. Understanding that mentality, the grassroots union proposed to negotiate with the company to increase the basic salary for employees. After more than 3 months of discussion and negotiation, even at times quite tense, the company's board of directors finally agreed to the salary increase and salary allowance according to the plan proposed by the grassroots union. Moreover, although the company requested to keep the information confidential, the grassroots union, based on the provisions of the law, requested the company to publicly announce the salary increase agreement and the increase level so that all employees of the company would know.

“After agreeing on the salary increase and salary allowance, the grassroots union also sent a letter to all employees, stating that if only calculating the lowest increase of 300,000 VND/person/month, then with nearly 3,500 people, the company will have to spend more than 1 billion VND in salary every month. Meanwhile, our work efficiency and performance have not increased correspondingly so that the company can compensate for that part. Therefore, the grassroots union hopes that all employees have a two-way view, try to work hard so that the company can see that when the salary is increased, the employees also try to work hard. If each person just tries a little bit, nearly 3,500 people will give better results, that is the premise for us to negotiate for the next times,” Mr. Hong shared.

Seeking benefits for the majority of union members

Ms. Nguyen Thu Huong, an employee at a school in Nha Trang city (Khanh Hoa) wants to learn about the policies related to her job but does not know who to contact. If she contacts law offices, she is worried that the cost will not be enough.

Like Ms. Huong, many union members and workers in Nha Trang in the past shared the same sentiment. Through meetings and dialogues with union members, Mr. Ngo Anh Duyet, Chairman of the Nha Trang City Labor Federation, understood this “lack” of union members, and at the same time discussed with the city’s Labor Union to proactively connect with the Khanh Hoa Provincial Lawyers Association to find benefits for union members.

After the agreement period, in August 2024, Nha Trang City Labor Federation and Khanh Hoa Provincial Bar Association Legal Consulting Center signed a welfare program for the period 2024-2029 with the content of establishing a free legal consulting team to support Nha Trang union members, coordinate propaganda to raise awareness and protect the legitimate rights of union members.

According to the leader of Nha Trang City Labor Federation, these are 3 out of 4 welfare programs that the Union has proactively sought to bring benefits to a large number of union members in 2024. Along with the welfare programs being implemented, each year nearly 14,700 union members in the province will enjoy at least one benefit that the Union brings from the welfare programs.
