On February 6th, the UK and France co-hosted a conference in London, bringing together government representatives from 35 countries, along with business leaders and technology companies, to discuss mercenary hackers and the market for cyberattack tools.
Technology companies such as Apple, BAE Systems, Google, and Microsoft sent representatives to attend this two-day conference.
At the conference, participants focused on discussing ways to address this problem, particularly the "market" for exchanging cyberattack tools, as well as the threats to international security, human rights, and the stability of cyberspace.
According to the UK's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), mercenary hacking can lead to risks such as corporate espionage or the use of state-sponsored surveillance tools that threaten national security.
According to British Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, in the context of the growing threat posed by the malicious use of online tools, coordination among like-minded partners is needed to address this cross-border issue.
