With creative and flexible approaches, career guidance and student orientation after graduating from secondary school have had positive changes, helping students make the right choice of career that suits their abilities, strengths and the labor needs of each locality.

Variety of methods

In recent years, Tran Phu Secondary School (Ea Tan Commune, Krong Nang District) has had an effective approach to career guidance and student orientation after graduating from secondary school. Based on the learning results and the quality assessment of the first and second semesters, the school has organized propaganda and counseling sessions for parents and students to have reasonable options when they graduate. Students with good academic performance and aspirations can take the entrance exam to high schools, some students can choose to continue studying at the District Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center or learn a trade. Mr. Nguyen The Thien, Principal of the school, said: "The school also coordinates with vocational schools in the province to organize career guidance sessions for grade 9 students. The school's teachers themselves directly visit and learn about schools and vocational training facilities to help students and parents have a realistic view and be more confident in their choices." In the 2023-2024 school year, grade 9 has 192 students, 35 of whom have registered for vocational training.

Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hoan, Principal of Bang Adrenh Secondary School (Bang Adrenh Commune, Krong Ana District) helps students learn about books about professions.

Bang Adrenh Secondary School (Krong Ana district) based on the actual situation organizes career counseling and guidance for students in many forms such as: integrating through subjects in class, class activities; based on student surveys through mock exams at school and their academic achievements to advise and classify students...

Last school year, the school had 58 ninth graders, of whom 47 continued to high school, the rest went to vocational schools and learned vocational skills locally. Ms. Nguyen Thi My Hoan, the school's principal, informed: "In the following years, the school will have more diverse forms of career guidance and student streaming. Specifically: in addition to teaching based on the Ministry of Education and Training's program, students will be allowed to research the professions they like; introduce students to different career fields with descriptions of the requirements, opportunities and challenges of each field; organize personal counseling sessions, invite talented people in local fields and professions to talk and let students experience those professions... In particular, parents are encouraged to attend meetings to share information about career guidance and guidance so that they can support their children in the career selection process.

Mr. Ha Ngoc Anh, Director of the Vocational Education - Continuing Education Center of Buon Ma Thuot City, said that in recent times, the Center has actively coordinated with local secondary schools to do a good job of counseling, career guidance as well as enrollment. At the same time, vocational schools are now adding new majors that are loved by many people and needed by society such as cooking, auto repair, refrigeration, information technology, fashion design, etc. Therefore, the number of students enrolling in cultural studies combined with vocational training at the school has increased over the years. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Center has recruited 130 grade 10 students, reaching 100% of the enrollment plan.

Choose the right learning environment

Promoting career guidance helps many students choose a learning environment that suits them and their families. In the 2020-2021 school year, Lang Thi Bich Hiep (Thai ethnic group) in Ia R've commune, Ea Sup district was admitted to a public high school in the area, but she did not attend and instead switched to studying at the district's Continuing Education and Vocational Training Center. According to Hiep, through the advice of teachers and practical experience from seniors, the Ea Sup district Continuing Education and Vocational Training Center has conditions that suit the needs and circumstances of the family. Specifically, the Center has a dormitory for students living far away (Hiep's house is 50 km from the Center); students are supported with additional costs when studying culture; receive a subsidy of 1.49 million VND/month... "The above valuable support has helped me continue my studies. During the 3 years of studying at the Center, I focused on my studies. This school year, I was admitted to the Chinese Language Department at Dong A University, Dak Lak Branch. I am currently completing the necessary procedures to continue my studies," Bich Hiep shared.

Similarly, Le Thi Tra My (Tran Phu Secondary School, Ea Tan Commune, Krong Nang District) who just graduated from secondary school this school year has chosen to study marketing. She confided that she felt that her academic ability was not suitable for high school, so she decided to choose to study a trade, partly because she loves this profession and was carefully advised before choosing, she will officially enroll at the end of August. Ms. Le Thi Nghia, parent of Nguyen Thai Le Duong (Dlie Ya Commune, Krong Nang District) expressed: "Right from the school year, the school (Ama Trang Long Secondary School) organized career orientation sessions, introduced professions... After considering the family's circumstances and her interests, we registered her to study automotive technology after graduating from secondary school."
