Quach Thanh Lam, also known as the Vegetarian Lion, is said to be the first person to "expose" Kera vegetable candy for excessive advertising - Photo cut from clip
On the afternoon of April 5, Tuoi Tre Online had an interview with Mr. Quach Thanh Lam (also known as the Vegetarian Lion TikToker), who is said to have brought Kera vegetable candy for quality inspection.
"I just want to find a satisfactory answer for consumers" - Mr. Lam said about his purpose.
From the question of whether the fiber content actually matches the advertising
* How did you hear about Kera vegetable candy and why did you decide to test this candy?
- As I shared, I know about Kera vegetable candy because this product is advertised a lot on TikTok and Facebook with attractive highlights.
I have always reviewed health products and analyzed ingredient lists for people, so I was curious about this product so I ordered it.
Holding the product in my hand and quickly reading the packaging, I saw a problem and started to question whether the actual fiber content in the product was commensurate with the advertisement? To clarify, I also have 4-5 videos revolving around this exact question.
* The public is interested in how the process of testing your Kera vegetable candy product went? Was the result within your expectations?
- This is the first time I decided to do this. After consulting many people, I chose Quatest - National Institute for Standards and Quality Measurement to follow the State's inspection procedures.
And the result was really surprising because it was much lower than I thought. I even contacted Quatest technician to see if there was any mistake. Only when it was confirmed that there was no mistake did I share.
* When you decided to post the test results online, you must have anticipated the reactions from public opinion and insiders?
- Throughout the incident, I was attacked a lot but I chose to remain silent because the only goal of doing this was to clarify and help consumers understand the product more than the advertisements, not to argue with anyone.
Nearly 3 weeks since the issue was raised, I have seen apologies and corrections, but the important and legitimate question of consumers, "How much fiber is in the product?", remains unanswered.
I myself understand that if I don't find a satisfactory answer with numbers, many consumers will still be led by advertising, so I went to test.

Will still speak up
* Will you still speak out against false product advertising, not just this candy?
- I will still speak up, because this is not the first time I have done this.
I have spoken out before about KOLs advertising false information about food products. I always believe that with health products, you should say the right thing and say enough first, and consider other things later.
Furthermore, the authorities have promptly joined the investigation. I myself respect the law so I keep silent because the investigation results will be the most convincing evidence for everyone.
I am very grateful to the state agencies for their prompt and close attention to this matter for the benefit of consumers.
* Recently, the authorities have stepped in to handle the responsibility of individuals and organizations that violated the law in the production of this candy. What do you have to say to consumers?
- Through this incident, I hope consumers will be more careful and wise when choosing health-related products, and avoid buying based on emotions.
More importantly, practice reading the packaging. The information on the packaging says more than the fancy advertisements from the manufacturer. I have been talking about this habit on the channels for many years now.
Eat a whole box of candy, fiber equal to 1/6 of a banana?!
As Tuoi Tre reported, recently, the online community has been buzzing about the clip of Tiktoker Su Tu An Chay testing the fiber content of Kera candy - a product favored by many consumers, especially young people.
Specifically, the male tiktoker announced the results of fiber content testing from the Technical Center for Standards and Quality Measurement 2 (Da Nang City).
Test results show that 100g of the product contains only 0.51g of fiber, equivalent to about 0.016g of fiber per candy. Thus, even if you eat the entire box of candy (30 pieces), you will get 0.5g of fiber, equivalent to eating 1/6 of a banana, making consumers upset.
Kera vegetable candy is a product announced by CER Group Joint Stock Company and produced by Asia Life Joint Stock Company, widely introduced on livestream sessions by Quang Linh Vlogs, Hang Du Muc and Miss Thuy Tien with the advertisement "one candy is equivalent to a plate of vegetables".
On April 3, the Investigation Police Agency (Ministry of Public Security) initiated a case and prosecuted 5 people for the crimes of "producing fake food products" and "deceiving customers" related to Asia Life Joint Stock Company and CER Group.
The police investigation agency has determined that the defendants have signs of producing counterfeit food products and deceiving customers, according to the provisions of Articles 193 and 198 of the Penal Code. The case is continuing to be verified and investigated.
