The latest data from the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0) shows that in June, both maximum capacity and daily electricity consumption nationwide increased significantly.
Specifically, at 1:30 p.m. on June 19, the peak capacity of the national power system reached 49,533 MW. Meanwhile, the national consumption output reached a record 1.025 billion kWh on June 14.
Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) assessed that in the middle of June, the widespread hot weather, especially in the North and Central regions, with several consecutive days of temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius, caused the national electricity consumption to reach a new peak.
According to EVN, electricity consumption could have been even higher in terms of both capacity and output, if it had not been for scattered rains in the evenings in recent days. The high electricity consumption has also significantly increased pressure on electricity supply.
With the spirit of finding every solution to ensure electricity supply in all situations, EVN said that it has proactively and synchronously implemented solutions to optimally operate the power system and electricity market, increase electricity imports, speed up construction investment progress, and encourage customers to use electricity economically and efficiently.
EVN continues to call for people to share and take positive actions to save electricity thoroughly, especially during peak hours at noon from 11am to 3pm and in the evening from 7pm to 11pm.
In particular, pay special attention to the reasonable use of air conditioning. Only turn on the air conditioner when really necessary, at the highest possible temperature, instead of leaving it too cold unnecessarily. Do not use many high-power electrical appliances at the same time during peak hours.
Using electricity sparingly also reduces the risk of electrical problems and limits high electricity bills.
Along with power saving solutions, EVN and its units have been proactively implementing synchronous solutions on optimal operation of the power system and electricity market, increasing electricity import, and accelerating construction investment progress to ensure power supply.
Up to now, these solutions have been effective, the electricity supply for the socio-economic development of the whole country and people's lives has been ensured, although the actual electricity consumption growth rate is much higher than the expected plan.
According to EVN, in the first 5 months of this year, the total electricity output of the entire system reached 124.25 billion kWh, an increase of 12.2% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the growth in household electricity consumption increased by 18.08%, trade - services increased by 18%, industry - production increased by 12.15%...
