Height and weight standards for military service in 2024
According to Article 31 of the 2015 Military Service Law, citizens are called up for military service when they meet the following criteria: a clear personal history; strict adherence to the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations; sufficient health to serve in the military as prescribed; and appropriate educational qualifications.
Specifically, the health standards for conscription are stipulated in Clause 3, Article 4 of Circular 148/2018/TT-BQP as follows:
- Selecting citizens with health classifications 1, 2, and 3 as stipulated in Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP regulating health examinations for military service.
- For key and confidential agencies, units, and positions within the Army; the Honor Guard and Ceremonial Force; and the professional Military Guard and Control Force, selection procedures will be carried out according to specific standards as prescribed by the Ministry of National Defense .
- Citizens with health category 3, including those with refractive eye defects (myopia of 1.5 diopters or more, various degrees of hyperopia); drug addiction, HIV infection, or AIDS, will not be drafted into the Army.
Therefore, if a citizen's height and weight standards fall into categories 1, 2, or 3, they will meet one of the conditions for military service in 2014.
Specifically, the standards for height and weight (or what is called the physical fitness classification standards) are guided by Joint Circular 16/2016/TTLT-BYT-BQP as follows:
