BRICS was established in 2006 at the Foreign Minister level, initially comprising four countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China, and upgraded to a Summit in 2009. BRICS is gradually becoming a gathering of the world's largest emerging and developing economies with increasingly great potential, and has become a multilateral organization with increasing prestige and influence, a comprehensive cooperation mechanism, and is receiving increasing attention from many countries around the world. What is special is that BRICS currently has 2 permanent members of the United Nations Security Council; 6 members of the G20; To date, BRICS contributes about 37% of global GDP (in terms of purchasing power parity), accounting for nearly 50% of the global population). |
Earlier, on the afternoon of October 22, President of the host country, Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, opened the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. This year's conference was attended by about 20,000 delegates from 36 countries and territories, including 22 heads of state, and leaders of 6 international organizations, including United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. This is also the first BRICS conference in an expanded format with 9 countries, in addition to Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
