During wartime, war veterans fought and sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. In peacetime, war veterans businessmen have been and are role models, adding motivation and contributing to sustainable poverty reduction in Viet Tri City.

Adding impetus to poverty reduction

Veteran Tran Chinh Bien boldly invested in machinery to open an embroidery workshop, creating jobs for 20 local workers.

Veteran Tran Chinh Bien (Van Co area, Minh Phuong ward, Viet Tri city) is a typical example in the movement of veterans who do good business in the locality. Starting a business at a young age, the decision at that time was not easy for veteran Tran Chinh Bien. He said: “Before that, my family was only doing pure agriculture so the economy was not very abundant. Through researching information channels and with the encouragement and support of my wife, children and family, in 2014, I decided to borrow capital to invest in machinery to open an embroidery workshop.”

Unlike conventional garment products, embroidery brings higher profits but the technique is difficult, requiring meticulousness and elaboration. In the early days of starting his business, Mr. Bien was always present at the embroidery workshop, sometimes he had to work for more than ten hours, regardless of the sun or rain. At first, without experience, many batches of embroidered goods were wrong or did not meet the requirements and had to be redone or discarded, which was normal.

After 10 years of operation, CCB Tran Chinh Bien's enterprise has a foothold in the market with a factory of 200m2 , specializing in providing embroidery products for garments from markets in Taiwan (China), China... Annual revenue is estimated at 2 billion VND, creating stable jobs for 20 local workers.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Minh Phuong Ward, Viet Tri City said: "Thanks to the efforts and dynamism of the members as well as the support and care of the association organizations, 85% of the members of the Association of War Veterans in Minh Phuong Ward are well-off or rich, with no poor or near-poor households". It cannot be denied that the War Veterans are good examples for the younger generation to follow in terms of both morality and determination to overcome circumstances and age, and keep up with the times.

Adding impetus to poverty reduction

The garment factory of the family of veteran Pham Anh Tuan (in white shirt) in Tho Son ward, Viet Tri city has a revenue of over one billion VND/year.

"CVDs help each other reduce poverty, do good business, improve their lives, care for and protect the legitimate and legal interests of CVDs" is a movement strongly promoted by the Association of War Veterans of Viet Tri City. In the period of 2019 - 2024, the CVD Business Club has 22 multi-industry production and business enterprises such as: Construction, production of construction materials, electrical appliances, transportation... with annual revenue estimated at over 300 billion VND. Up to now, the whole association has 45% of its members being well-off and rich; 55% of its members are average, and there are no more poor households.

Implementing the Government's preferential credit policy, the Association of War Veterans of Viet Tri City coordinated with the provincial branch of the Social Policy Bank to sign a trust for 17/22 wards and communes to manage over 50 billion VND for 53 groups and households to borrow capital. The member families were able to borrow to do profitable business, and their lives were improved.

Colonel Nguyen Huu Thuc - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans of Viet Tri City said: "Throughout the association's activities, we always promote the role of exemplary war veterans in association with patriotic emulation movements. In particular, we encourage war veterans to rise up, overcome circumstances and age to get rich, do good business, not only to support their family members but also to contribute to social security and economic development in their hometown".

Promoting and maintaining the traditional nature of Uncle Ho's soldiers, war veterans in peacetime will always be a shining example for their children and grandchildren in their families and for people in residential areas to follow and learn from. They are one of the core forces, adding motivation to the sustainable poverty reduction movement, limiting re-poverty not only in Viet Tri City but also in many other localities in the province.
