Ms. Ho Thi Dieu (40 years old, residing in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province) said that every day she goes out to pull weeds for hire, or does whatever job anyone hires her to do, to support her son, a freshman Tran Van Dat (Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy) and Dat's older brother who is in the hospital due to a traffic accident.

Ms. Dieu confided that this morning it was raining in Duc Trong district so she took a day off from weeding to take Dat to Da Lat city to receive the scholarship " Tiep suc den truong" .

“My whole family is suffering, my husband and I do whatever we are hired to do. Dat’s older brother caused a traffic accident for someone else, now he is also disabled and the whole family has to compensate that person. We are exhausted. We have to take out the money we saved to pay Dat’s tuition to take care of him,” Ms. Dieu confided.

This 40-year-old woman said that the Relay to School scholarship was like a lifeline for her family amidst many difficulties.

“When we heard Dat received the scholarship, everyone in my family was very happy. He loves studying but we don’t have money to pay for his tuition. I really thank the program very much,” Ms. Dieu said emotionally.

Living with her grandmother since childhood, the new student of Yersin University in Dalat, Dao Tran Au Lang, said that her parents divorced so she raised her younger brother and two younger siblings. Life was difficult, she only worked for hire, doing whatever was asked of her.

“I really wanted to go to school, but life was so difficult at times. I even thought about dropping out of school, but I didn’t want my grandmother and two younger siblings to suffer, so I was determined to go to university,” Lang confided.

Not wanting to drop out of school, Lang took out a student loan to pay for his tuition. During the first few days of school, Lang only dared to eat instant noodles to save the money he borrowed.

“Today I received the scholarship, I still can’t believe it’s true. I would like to thank the sponsors very much, I will definitely try to study well” – Lang said.

Mother and child cried together when they heard the news that they were given the chance to go to school.

New student Nhu Thi Thu Nguyet (Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport) sent her gratitude to the organizing committee. She said she and her mother cried when they heard the news of receiving the scholarship.

“I lost my father when I was young, my mother is disabled but she shouldered everything. Even though she was not healthy or financially well, she still tried her best to take care of my education. In 6th grade, my uncle and aunt took me to the Dak Lak Social Protection Center. Here, the government took care of my accommodation and education, everything became more convenient and not as difficult as before.

But when I went to university, I had to pay for my own tuition. So the tuition fee issue was a difficult issue. When I received the notice that I was on the scholarship list, I felt like a burden had been lifted off my shoulders. I was so happy that I went to tell my mother. I cried, and she cried too.

Mom called to remind me to thank the sponsor.

New student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry Huynh Huy Khang (from Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province) said that Khang's father died of a stroke, leaving his mother to raise Khang and his three siblings alone.

Khang's mother is only a farmer, her job is unstable so she can only rely on local subsidies. Khang loves his mother so much that since he was young, he asked for many extra jobs to help support his family.

Khang confided that there were times when he wanted to give up because his family's economic life was too difficult. However, thanks to the encouragement of his mother and teachers, Khang tried to overcome adversity and entered university.

“Last night I couldn’t sleep because I was so happy and looking forward to the morning when I would receive the scholarship to support my family. My mother also called me to confide in me and asked me to thank the sponsors and benefactors for creating conditions for me to receive the scholarship,” Khang said.

Mr. Kpa Than - expert of the Youth and School Committee of Gia Lai Provincial Youth Union - said that he was very honored to have worked with Tuoi Tre newspaper for many years to bring new Gia Lai students to attend the scholarship awarding ceremonies of the "Tiep suc den truong" program.

“Every year, I always feel a certain excitement and eagerness, maybe because I love the new students and am so happy that they receive the Tiep Suc Den Truong scholarship. This is a very meaningful program because perhaps the most difficult period for them is the period of entering university” – Mr. Kpa Than said.
