Through many practical and effective support activities, in recent times, the Women's Union of Dakrong district has helped its members overcome adversity, improve their lives, and actively contribute to local poverty reduction.

According to the women's cadres of Ta Rut commune, we visited the family of Ms. Ho Thi Xien (born in 1984), one of the typical examples of escaping poverty in Vuc Leng village, Ta Rut commune. At that time, she was busy preparing food for her livestock.
It is known that in addition to the herd of 7 pigs, she also raises 4 cows and 10 goats. Pointing to the pigs, Ms. Xien shared: “In 2018, with 4 million VND borrowed from the revolving fund of the Commune Women's Union, my husband and I bought a pair of breeding pigs.
Through the care process, the pigs grow quickly and reproduce well. On average, each year, my wife and I earn about 15 million VND from selling pigs. We have now paid off the debt so that the association can create conditions for other members to borrow, and the rest will continue to invest in re-herding."
Looking at the solid house and the developed livestock model as it is now, few people would have guessed that Ms. Xien had a difficult past. She and her husband had to do many different jobs but it was not enough to spend and raise their children. However, thanks to the timely support of the Women's Union at all levels, the current life of her family has been somewhat less difficult.
Like Ms. Xien, the family of Ms. Ho Thi Tho (born in 1987), living in Cu Tai 2 village, A Bung commune, Dakrong district, had the opportunity to rise up thanks to the support of the Women's Union at all levels. She and her husband used to live in a temporary house built on a neighbor's land. Without a stable job, earning enough money for daily expenses was too difficult for them, so the desire to have their own house to protect them from the sun and rain became a distant dream.
Fortunately, in early 2018, from the program "Accompanying women in the border areas" implemented by the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Union in coordination with the Quang Tri Province Women's Union, Ms. Tho received support of 55 million VND to build a house and toilet.
“With a house, my husband and I were able to borrow money to buy cows and goats to develop our family economy. With the guidance of the Women's Union and Farmers' Association officials, we learned how to raise livestock and raise herds effectively. Working hard and saving money, our family's life gradually improved, and we had money to buy supplies to meet our needs and work. My husband and I are very grateful for the attention and support from the Women's Union at all levels to help our family achieve what we have today,” Tho confided.
Talking to us, President of the Women's Union of A Bung Commune, Ho Thi Theu, said that the whole commune currently has a total of 780 female members. Caring for the material and spiritual life of members has been a special concern of the Women's Union of the commune for many years.
In addition to supporting livelihoods, the association also promotes propaganda and encourages members to be proactive, dare to think and dare to do to improve their lives.
“Based on the allocated and mobilized capital, we survey the actual situation of each member’s family to provide effective support. Some families are supported with plants and seedlings; some members are supported with production tools and capital. We determine that, for a border commune with many difficulties like A Bung, all support is meaningful. This is the motivation for women to strive to develop the economy and stabilize their lives in the long term,” said Ms. Theu.
Not only in A Bung commune, many practical movements and programs to support women in ethnic minority areas to develop the economy and reduce poverty have also been actively implemented by the Women's Union at all levels in the district.
Accordingly, the local associations have actively exploited capital sources, especially entrusted loans from the Social Policy Bank; at the same time, mobilized capital from members through savings models to help women have capital to buy and sell on a small scale, expand production, and aim to escape poverty sustainably.
At the same time, from the beginning of the year, the Standing Committee of the District Women's Union issued an official dispatch directing the Women's Unions of communes and towns to register and support women's households to escape poverty. Through support in many practical forms such as: lending capital, technical training, supporting livestock, supporting rice, building new houses, repairing houses... in 2023 alone, 326 poor households with women and 59 poor households headed by women were helped by the union to escape poverty.
From that support, many households have built highly effective economic models; have better lives, and have sent their children to school.
Chairwoman of the Dakrong District Women's Union Nguyen Thi Ty affirmed that in recent years, activities to support women in disadvantaged areas to escape poverty and become rich have been implemented relatively effectively by all levels of the union, spreading widely in the locality. Thanks to that, many women in the Dakrong mountainous area have gradually stabilized their lives; many women have become examples of economic development, becoming typical examples of overcoming difficulties and escaping poverty.
“In the coming time, the District Association will continue to direct the association bases to continue selecting and developing effectively implemented activities and models, and investing more in quality.
Continue to grasp the list of poor households and women in difficult circumstances to have timely and appropriate assistance plans.
At the same time, we will promote and encourage members to boldly access loan sources to start businesses and develop household economies. In particular, the association will replicate typical good people, good deeds, new factors, new models, and creative ways for members to follow, to be bolder in starting businesses, developing the economy, and escaping poverty sustainably," said Ms. Ty.
