Receiving Red-crowned Cranes at Tram Chim National Park - A new milestone in the journey of preserving natural heritage

DTO - On the morning of April 20, at Tram Chim National Park, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province solemnly organized the program "Receiving Red-crowned Cranes" at Tram Chim National Park. This is an event of special significance within the framework of the Project on Conservation and Development of Red-crowned Cranes for the period 2022 - 2032.

Attending the program were comrades: Le Minh Hoan - Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee; Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Huynh Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Executive Board of the Red-crowned Crane Project, along with leaders of departments, branches, professional units and many domestic and foreign guests.

On the Thai side, there were Dr. Jade Donavanik - Chairman of the Board of Zoological Parks Thailand and the Delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand.

Speaking at the program, Comrade Le Quoc Phong - Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee emphasized that the successful reception of 6 Red-crowned Cranes from Thailand is a clear demonstration of the spirit of extensive international cooperation, the result of the consensus and joint efforts between the government, businesses, international organizations and people in the effort to preserve the rare bird species associated with Tram Chim land. This is also a vivid symbol of the strong friendship between Vietnam and Thailand.

Provincial Party Secretary Le Quoc Phong sincerely thanked international organizations, scientists and central agencies for always accompanying and supporting Dong Thap throughout the implementation of the Project. He especially acknowledged the practical contributions of Tam Nong district people who boldly changed their agricultural practices towards environmental friendliness, creating ideal living conditions for Red-crowned Cranes to return to live and develop. The Provincial Party Secretary called on all cadres, party members and people, especially the young generation, to join hands in preserving and spreading the unique ecological value of Tram Chim, considering this the foundation for Dong Thap to develop a harmonious and sustainable economy.

Within the framework of the program, delegates watched a documentary film recording the journey of caring for and transporting 6 Red-crowned Cranes from Thailand to Vietnam and the journey from Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden to their "new home" at Tram Chim National Park - which used to be the ideal habitat for this precious bird species.

The highlight of the ceremony was the handover ceremony of Red-crowned Cranes between Korat Zoo (Thailand) and Tram Chim National Park (Vietnam). In particular, at the program, the Organizing Committee also announced the official names of the 6 Red-crowned Cranes received, including: "Tha Vi", "Ti Ci", "Lotus", "Ban Mit", "Phuc Vien" and "Tan Nguyen". Each name is a story, a humane message symbolizing the friendship between Vietnam and Thailand, conveying the belief in the adaptation and long-term development of the precious bird species in the natural environment of Tram Chim.

To help delegates observe directly, the Organizing Committee set up a camera system to transmit images from the Red-crowned Crane breeding area to the main stage. The vivid images from the barn complex, where the Red-crowned Cranes are adapting very well to the new environment, bring deep emotions to the viewers. Here, Dr. Tran Triet - an expert of the International Crane Association shared details about the health status and specialized care regimen for the Red-crowned Cranes.

Attending and speaking at the event, Dr. Jade Donavanik - Chairman of the Zoological Park Thailand Organizing Committee expressed his honor to witness this important milestone in conservation cooperation between the two countries. At the same time, he highly appreciated the proactive spirit, goodwill and strong commitment of the leaders of Dong Thap province. Mr. Jade Donavanik believes that, with close cooperation and community participation, the goal of conserving the Eastern Sarus Crane will achieve sustainable results, making a practical contribution to the conservation of global biodiversity.

Another meaningful content of the program is the launching ceremony of the “Propaganda Team for the Protection of Red-crowned Cranes and Wild Birds at Tram Chim National Park”. The 15 members of the team, mostly young people, will become “messengers” for nature protection, contributing to raising public awareness of biodiversity conservation. On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Le Minh Hoan presented books and symbols to encourage the propaganda team, expressing his belief in the next generation in the work of preserving the country’s precious natural heritage.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Minh Hoan, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, expressed his deep emotion at the moment when the red-crowned cranes returned to their homeland. He also affirmed that the event was not simply about receiving a rare animal species but also an act demonstrating the philosophy of harmonious development between humans and nature.

Comrade Le Minh Hoan emphasized that nature can live without humans, but humans cannot live without nature. Therefore, the conservation of Red-crowned Cranes is an opportunity for each Dong Thap resident to have a deeper awareness of the environmental value of a green lifestyle and a sustainable future. He also advised: “Happiness does not come from big things but starts from small meaningful actions. To change the future, we need to change our thinking today, just like the way Tram Chim farmers gradually transformed themselves to clean and sustainable agriculture.”
