Returning from the Ho Chi Minh Campaign in 1975 and witnessing the day the country was reunified, in the mind of veteran Vi Van An, 73 years old (Yen Trach commune, Cao Loc district) are always imprinted the years of arduous fighting for the independence and freedom of the nation. Mr. An shared: I was an artillery scout, receiving the reconnaissance mission, sneaking into the enemy's heart to measure the coordinates of the target and then reporting back to the unit to carry out artillery fire, preemptively attacking the enemy. In each battle, we constantly had to witness the sacrifice of our comrades, so when living in peace, I alwayseducate my children and grandchildren to cherish the value of the word "peace" and strive to build the homeland and the country.
Having gone through the difficult years on the battlefield, war veterans like Mr. An deeply understand the value of independence, freedom, and peace, so they always want the younger generation to cherish the achievements of the revolution and continue the tradition of patriotism, making every effort to contribute to building the country. To do that, in recent years, war veterans associations at all levels in the province have regularly coordinated to organize propaganda and education on the tradition of patriotism and revolutionary heroism for the younger generation.
The province currently has 206 war veterans participating in the resistance war against France, nearly 7,700 war veterans participating in the resistance war against the US. Mr. Nguyen Van Quan, Chairman of the Provincial War Veterans Association, said: Every year, the Provincial War Veterans Association has a program to coordinate with the Provincial Youth Union, the Department of Education and Training to organize propaganda and education on revolutionary traditions for young people and students; meet historical witnesses, hold discussions; visit historical sites, activities about the source... on occasions such as: Southern Liberation Day (April 30), National Day (September 2), the founding day of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22)... From the beginning of 2024 to now, the War Veterans Associations at all levels in the province have coordinated to organize nearly 350 propaganda and education sessions on traditions for nearly 20,000 union members and students to participate; propagate and mobilize over 1,500 young people to join the army, contributing to protecting the Fatherland.
To effectively educate about traditions, the Veterans Association at all levels has actively innovated the form and content of propaganda. Mr. Lai Quoc Toan, Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Entrepreneurs Association, said: Every year, the association organizes propaganda activities about revolutionary history for high school students in the province with a number of activities such as: storytelling, watching reports, performing arts, exchanging, answering questions about history... From 2024 to now, we have organized nearly 40 meetings, attracting over 10,000 students to listen.
Stories about a time of arduous fighting, stories about comradeship, love between the frontline and the rear, heroic sacrifices, brave fighting spirit of soldiers... were told truthfully by the war veterans with pride, thereby partly fostering patriotism in the younger generation.
Hoang Ly Thuy Phuong, an 11th grade student at Trang Dinh High School, shared: Listening to the revolutionary history storytelling sessions organized by the war veterans, I appreciate and understand the value of peace even more and realize that I need to make more efforts in studying, training, and competing to build and protect the Fatherland.
In the coming time, the cadres and members of the Veterans Association will continue to innovate the forms and content of propaganda, integrating historical storytelling with activities such as visiting martyrs' cemeteries, lighting candles in gratitude..., contributing to educating and fostering love for the homeland, country, and national pride of the current young generation.
