The exchange program with the theme "Keeping the tradition alive - Forever the belief in unity" organized by the Youth Union of Hanoi National University of Education is an opportunity to arouse national pride, educate the tradition of patriotism, and noble ideals for today's young generation, especially in April when sacred historical memories return, reminding us of a time when "cutting Truong Son along to save the country", a time when Vietnamese youth, for the sake of revolutionary ideals, were ready to put down their pens and go to battle.

The program helped students of Hanoi National University of Education today meet and listen to historical stories told by the people who lived, fought and contributed to the movement to protect the country of revolutionary youth, the youth of the National University of Education at that time, the teachers who followed the sacred call of the Fatherland to go to war - so that today's youth can listen, understand and appreciate.

In his opening speech, Chairman of the University Council, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hien, said that the challenge of identity is when globalization is causing traditional values to fade away. The challenge of will is when a part of the youth lives without ideals, pursues a pragmatic and selfish lifestyle; and takes advantage of freedom of speech to "cut history".

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Hien cited the warning of culturalist Nguyen Khac Vien: "A nation that does not know how to look back at the past will never understand the present and will certainly not have a future."
Therefore, the meeting with teachers and those who once volunteered to go to the battlefield has a very profound meaning. This is an opportunity for the current generation of students of Hanoi National University of Education to pay tribute to historical witnesses and is also a precious opportunity for them to listen to authentic stories, to feel more deeply the value of independence, freedom, and the passionate patriotic tradition of the nation.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hien reminded the current generation of students and youth with the advice of the late General Vo Nguyen Giap: " Peace is only truly meaningful when the young generation knows how to use their intelligence and enthusiasm to build the country."

At the program, students and outstanding youth union members of Hanoi National University of Education were immersed in the noble ideals of teachers who participated in the resistance war to protect the Fatherland - historical witnesses; thereby fostering revolutionary ideals, arousing national pride and responsibility of the youth in the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland today.
Behind each individual story, there is a common point in the great ideal, the ideal of national liberation. Through this, more or less the young generation of the Pedagogical University has for themselves lessons, and forms for themselves an ideal that is equally noble but suitable for the times.

Thuy Anh, a third-year student, said that through the stories of historical witnesses, she felt like she was vividly experiencing the boiling period of youth at that time. Looking back, she felt like her faith was strengthened, her pride was nurtured, and her desire to contribute was awakened in her heart.

Le Thi Duyen, a student of the Faculty of Political Theory - Civic Education, shared: "I feel very proud and understand more about the brutality of war. From there, I am even more grateful to the previous generation who sacrificed for the peace of the country. With those sacrifices, I remind myself that this is a sacred and noble thing. We, the young generation, need to strive harder, try to study well to preserve the independence and freedom of the country."

The second-year female student of the University of Education shared that the lesson from the teachers today is a lesson about ideals, young people need to have an ideal to live and work. For us young people, having an ideal to live is necessary, the ideal to live in harmony with the ideal of the nation is what the young people need to strive for. In this era, young people will be soldiers fighting on other fronts, such as science, technology, building a strong country, that is the responsibility on the shoulders of our generation.

Hanoi National University of Education is the origin of the "Three Ready" movement, which contributed to the beginning of the vibrant and heroic revolutionary movement of Vietnamese youth in the 20th century, where the school's youth, generations of teachers and students were ready to put down their pens and go to fight for noble ideals, for national independence.
