DNVN - Faced with the need for green transformation to meet increasingly stringent market requirements, access to green finance to support the process of transforming production and business towards sustainability is an urgent need for businesses.
On June 28 in Da Lat City, through the USAID-funded Vietnam Private Sector Competitiveness Enhancement Project (USAID IPSC), the Department of Enterprise Development (Ministry of Planning and Investment - Ministry of Planning and Investment) in coordination with the Department of Planning and Investment of Lam Dong province, organized a workshop on "Greening businesses and opportunities to access green finance for small and growing businesses".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - representative of the Department of Enterprise Development, delivered the opening speech at the workshop.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - Deputy Head of the Small and Medium Enterprise Department - Department of Enterprise Development, said that currently, climate change is having an increasingly large impact on the lives, economies and societies of every country in the world and Vietnam is no exception.
Faced with that impact, the demands of partners and markets towards sustainable production and consumption are taking place strongly. Vietnam's commitments when participating in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), priorities in international cooperation frameworks on sustainable business, green production, carbon tax issues, carbon verification tools that are increasingly applied in many countries around the world are posing challenges that require innovation for Vietnamese enterprises to keep up with new trends, otherwise they will lose competitiveness and lose the opportunity to participate and go deeper into the global value chain.
Businesses exchange information with speakers and managers at the workshop.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy, the global trend of green finance is becoming increasingly clear with a significant increase in investment in sustainable projects. Standards measuring the performance of businesses in aspects related to the environment, society and governance (ESG) are becoming important factors in the investment decisions of asset managers and investors.
Many countries and regions have adopted policies and regulations to encourage green finance, promoting the development of green investment funds. Banks and financial institutions are also actively developing green financial products, such as green bonds and sustainable investment funds. This shift not only benefits the environment but also creates attractive profit opportunities for investors.
“Thus, it can be seen that, in the context and irreversible trend of green development and sustainable development, enterprises also need to proactively change and transform their business models to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of the market. In that process, accessing green financial resources to support the process of transforming production and business towards a more sustainable direction will be an inevitable need of enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises,” emphasized the representative of the Department of Enterprise Development.
Mr. Bui Van Lam - Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Lam Dong province, spoke at the workshop.
Meanwhile, according to Mr. Bui Van Lam - Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Lam Dong province, green innovation is inevitable and requires the cooperation of the state, the business community, and scientific and technological organizations, in which enterprises play a core and pioneering role.
In recent years, Lam Dong has made great strides in the application of science and technology, innovation in the fields of production, business and social life. The management agency has gradually innovated its thinking in the management of science and technology and innovation towards taking enterprises as the center, increasing the mobilization of investment resources for science and technology and innovation. Supporting enterprises in research, application, innovation and technology transfer.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment of Lam Dong province hopes that the workshop will create favorable conditions to promote small and medium enterprises in the province (accounting for more than 98% of the total number of enterprises) to innovate green, expand the scale of goods and services, help enterprises participate in new markets, improve health and labor safety, reduce production costs per product, and meet business requirements in the increasingly competitive environment of the open market.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hue - Vice President of Lam Dong Provincial Business Association, shared at the workshop.
From the business perspective, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hue - Director of Vinh Tien Company Limited, Vice President of Lam Dong Province Business Association, said that businesses need to transform themselves to develop in a sustainable direction, in order to maintain the strengths that nature has bestowed on Da Lat - Lam Dong. Greening businesses is an issue that every business needs to do and must do in the context of increasingly obvious climate change.
In the process of green transformation, businesses need guidance from functional sectors and financial support not only to serve the work of expanding and developing business, but also to be able to carry out projects towards sustainable business development.
“The problem is how to invest to ensure the development needs of businesses, create competitive advantages for the business model and still contribute to the sustainable development of Lam Dong's economy in particular and Vietnam in general,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Hue hopes the workshop will solve this problem for the business community.
