“TV Singing - Sea Star” Binh Thuan, 4th time: Few contestants, high quality

The preliminary round of the “Television Singing Contest - Sea Star” has ended at the Blue Sea Music and Dance Theater. The contest is organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Binh Thuan Radio and Television Station. The organizing committee has just announced 75 songs about Binh Thuan in the next round - the first final, each contestant will sing one song of their choice and one compulsory song.

“This is my second time returning to singing on television – Ngoi Sao Bien. I am very happy and more confident because over the past year I have received support from my family, relatives and friends. I have to go to school, practice and improve my knowledge of singing firmly to start this competition. No matter what the result is, in my performance, I tried my best to stand on such a professional stage” – contestant Thanh Tuyen shared.

In the fourth season, there are many young people from Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Gia Lai, Vinh Long, Binh Duong, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Ninh Thuan, along with candidates from districts, towns, and cities in the province... Candidates from far away can compete online via video clip.

The judges in the preliminary round, including poet and musician Do Quang Vinh, member of the Vietnam Writers Association and the Vietnam Musicians Association, said: “Compared to the third year, the fourth time is not much. However, the professional quality and artistic quality of the contestants inside and outside the province have clearly improved. Fortunately, the quality of the entries in the province is not much different from that of the contestants outside the province. In this season, the contestants in the province have tried their best, so the difference in prizes between the contestants is not significant. This is also a good thing.”

Of the 50 contestants who competed directly and indirectly online, they sang with their natural voices (without microphones). Although the number of contestants this season was less than previous years, according to the assessment of experts and the jury, the quality of the contestants has changed.

In the online competition, musician Do Quang Vinh affirmed: The competition through video clips mainly creates conditions for contestants from far away. In the previous competition season, the echoes of the season spread to the provinces of the Southeast region, and this time, it also includes the provinces of the Southwest region. When marking the test of contestants from other provinces participating in the form of video clips, the jury will focus first on voice quality, second on performance. These are two core factors along with performance style and based on the conditions of making the clip so as not to miss any contestants. For example, if a contestant has a good voice but poor technical conditions, the jury will also consider and discuss with each other to ensure fairness in the competition.

“This is a big playground, I am really under a lot of pressure because there are many contestants who sing very well and are very good at playing musical instruments” – contestant Nguyen Khoa said. After the preliminary round, the Organizing Committee will select 40 contestants with high scores to continue to participate in the first final round.
