American doctor Nick Norwitz ate 24 eggs every day for 1 month to prove that this food does not increase bad cholesterol as people think.

Norwitz holds a PhD in Human Brain Metabolism from Oxford University (UK) and is completing his MD at Harvard University (USA).

During the experiment, Dr. Norwitz applied a keto diet that combined eggs with meat, fish, olive oil, nuts, cheese, and yogurt. The keto diet is low in carbohydrates (starch, sugar), high in good fats. The 28-year-old expert cooked fried, boiled, sunny-side up eggs... and did not feel bored even though he ate a lot. Each egg contains about 186mg of cholesterol. Other foods high in cholesterol include red meat and shellfish.

After two weeks, Dr. Norwitz began eating 60 grams of carbohydrates per day, focusing on fruits like bananas, blueberries, and frozen cherries dipped in macadamia butter. He ate about two bananas per day.

In addition, he also applied a training regimen of 1 hour of resistance training per week with exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, and planks. After 1 month of testing, the Doctor recorded an 18% reduction in LDL cholesterol levels.

Eggs have been given a bad rap for decades because their yolks are high in cholesterol. This has led to the belief that eating eggs causes fat to build up and damage blood vessels, leading to a number of diseases. But research in recent years has shown that this property of eggs does not have such a negative impact on health.

LDL is considered “bad cholesterol” because it can build up in plaque in the arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Another type of cholesterol, HDL, known as “good cholesterol,” has the opposite effect.

“I ate 720 eggs a month, which is equivalent to 133,200 mg of cholesterol,” says Dr. Norwitz. “Despite a fivefold increase in dietary cholesterol, my LDL cholesterol levels actually dropped.”

Dr. Norwitz’s video about his experiment has been viewed nearly 200,000 times. He shared pictures of the more than 40 egg cartons he used. One viewer commented: “I have eaten eggs almost every day for the past 67 years. I am in very good health, no need to see a doctor, no need for medicine.”

As for why eggs do not increase cholesterol, some scientists explain that when entering the body, cholesterol binds to receptors on intestinal cells, promoting the release of a hormone called cholesin. This substance travels through the blood to the liver, where it binds to the GPR146 receptor, signaling the liver to produce less LDL, helping to maintain cholesterol levels in the body.
